  • How can you leave Cory out all game and then throw him to the wolves in the fourth quarter. Casey must be on the spectrum because there is no other reason for this.

    • Casey had 4 choices:

Best choice: if Corey sucks early use van Vleet late
Next best choice: give van Vleet a whole game fuck Corey
Bad choice but whatever: just playing Corey like usual
Worst omg wtf choice: let Corey get stiff and lose confidence before unleashing him with 5 min left of a 4 point game

Which do you think he chose???

There is a worse choice than that: Playing Corey for the first time in the game with a 3 PG lineup and Powell at PF.

            • In terms of rotations for tonight I can't hate on Casey too much. Nothing really was working, half the team was hot garbage and we had injuries. He just had to find some combination that worked. I know everyone says the 3 PG lineup failed, but honestly it was only 2 defensive possessions so that's a very small sample size.

I dunno, Casey finally got to bust out a 3 PG lineup for the first time since GV-Lou-Lowry; I think Casey considers that a banner night.

I know right. He has a championship roster and he's messing it up. (Sarcasm)

I don't blame Casey like the others. I think Masai has to again take responsibility (just like he admitted in 2014-15.

Where's a reliable PF and SF and even a backup C when you need one? This team is unbelievably thin at those positions and the ones we have are affected by injuries (Carroll/Sully), Out of shape (Sully) and fouling guys on the perimeter (Bebe/Carroll).......

The margin for error with this team is sooo slim. Especially when missing players like Demar and PPatt and guys like Cojo and Carroll playing so poorly.....

                    • He's not on the hot seat. Not yet, but the last two Ls are on Casey 100%. Too many stupid decisions at crucial moments.

its the same stupidity every time though.

now that derozan is out and lowry isn't on fire you see the end result of the total ineptitude that is Dwane Casey coaching an NBA team.

No team has 5 bonafide starters and 5 solid backups at every position. That's why you need coaching and systems to maximize as many players strengths as possible. Raps have plenty of talent, but the Raps system is hugely dependant upon DeRozan ISO & Derozan decision making. It's a simple series of weaves and hand-offs designed to open a slight seam for DeMar to attack, and also to compensate for his lack of 3-pt shot. The role players are clueless what to do now that DeMar is out. Next man up doesn't even make sense in the Raps system. Is Powell supposed to go from 19% USG to carry a ridiculous 35% USG. The system completely falls apart without Derozan.

The Celtics have much less talent than the Raps and only 1 great player (IT), who blossomed into a super star under Stevens. I think what we're seeing here is the difference in a system that tries to maximize ball-movement system vs. ISO system. Jae Crowder has become a 50/40/90 guy with great defense that we though we were getting in Carroll, whereas Carroll has become garbage under Casey. Cory Joseph came in as high IQ, great defensive PG. He can't defend anymore. Joseph's regression is 100% on Casey, clearly, as a defensive coach. On offense, it should be blindingly obvious that Carroll and CoJo came from highly structured systems and are floundering in part because the Raps system is based on having to predict what Kyle and DeMar are going to do when they improvise.

Casey could easily start: Lowry/Ross/Powell/Patterson & JV and play them for 30-35 minutes. Then stagger Sully/Bebe/Carroll/CoJo as necessary. That's a quality NBA rotation that should beat the Magic 10 times out of 10. Raps have talent - universally acknowledged as one of the deepest teams in the league.

Toronto Raptors’ absurd depth could net them an all-star via trade — if Masai Ujiri is willing to go all in

But everything should normalize once DeMar gets back. Derozan IS the system.

seriously, Carroll's injuries and Cojo's effort level doesn't factor in here at all? 100% on Casey regarding Cojo...really, you can't be serious. You don't go from being a great defensive player and net positive to sucking big time in the span of a year with the same coach and players because of the coach...lol. AS for being system guys, maybe thats more on Masai for bringing them in in the first place no?

Player effort level is 100% on the coach to hold them accountable for it. Casey finally decided to bench Cory in favor of FVV last night to send that message. Then for some inexplicable reason, he brings Cory back into a 3-PG lineup, which killed the momentum. What could have been a lesson learned for Cory and a confidence booster for FVV and a team-bulding comeback on the road, quickly turned into a steaming pile of turd. I've been trying so hard to warm up to Casey, but my confidence is wavering again.
