I think he can be a very good PG defender....his strength is his on-ball defense
Lowry's rep coming to the Raps was supposedly as a tenacious on-ball defender to make up for Jose's weaknesses. Not sure what's happened to him.

I think that having a huge offensive load like Lowry does can really affect defense. You only have so much energy to go around each game, and if you are expending it all on the offensive end the defense will suffer.
That is a normal collar. Move on, find a new slant.

      • Hasn't Lowry often been defending the lower scoring player the last few games? It looks like Casey's trying to save him. I noticed Vasquez and Lou guarding Wall most of the time while they were playing beside Lowry. Wall is really fast, but he was absolutely torching Lou off the bounce. He didn't even need a pick to get by him, he just put the ball on the floor and had an open layup by the time he was in the key. The rotating big was often a bit late and had to foul. That's simple defensive stuff when you're playing a guy like John Wall, whom everybody should know is A.) extremely fast, and B.) loves to drive to the basket. Too many times everybody looked unprepared/slow in responding to his drives.

Agreed that there's a bit of blame to go around everywhere. Lowry was burned out by the time DeRozan came back, and you can't really ask for more from him than he gave over the past couple of months. Vasquez has size and Lou has long arms, but both are below average perimeter defenders in general. JV is not great at rotating quickly enough or recovering quickly enough to be a strong help defender. Caseys schemes can easily be questioned based on the results. Perimeter defense is going to have to be addressed by MU, whether via coaching or player changes. Everybody had hoped Ross would be part of the solution by now, but he's lost his starting spot instead.

        • Dwayne Casey should not be fired, especially at this time. Players have a reason to play hard for him and the team.

He's flawed, no doubt. But he's also deserving of this position at this time.

yeah not at this time, and the team is still on track for an improved season over last, but he can't keep making the same mistakes and not learning from them that'll slow down improvement of the team, and he needs to decide if he's contesting or developing and make his players all accountable for their actions. we should be developing, ross and jv need touches, more jv ross' relegation to the bench was a good move some time working for a spot could be good for him, but when we have a lead greater than 10 we almost always go to vasquez/williams iso ball until the opponent takes the lead then call a time-out and have to play from behind. against the nets jv blocked lopez, stole the ball out his hands passed to gv ran the floor and gv pulls up and bricks a 3 as soon as he can, reward the bigs, jv by the eye test seemed like our best answer against lopez, and gets almost no time, then against the wizards he's pretty poor and gets to play 4th quarter, I don't understand it, I'll take the wins, especially the wizards one, but the nets one could of been a bit better, that's not a team that should be forcing us to overtime or even a close game, jarret jack is not a superstar.

            • would you coach better?
How do you know his calls have been mistakes?

Explain in detail, I'd love to actually see someone here justify their comments, just once (and have it make actual sense)

Vasquez guarding Tyreke on the final possession a few weeks ago is an easy one.

The gameplan vs. Joe Johnson was really good - I thought they were toast without James Johnson, but the double teams were executed perfectly. Too bad Jarret Jack lit them up instead (honestly).

Any actual word from people in the know on what Johnson has done to piss off Management?

He was playing well. But he is very much in the doghouse now....

Only thing I can think of is his mouth. Or he fucked someone's daughter in management. You know what JJ is like.

                        • I'm going to wait till after the trade deadline before making any more guesses on JJ's playing time..

Someone is maybe being showcased and it doesn't seem to be JJ.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

Might he be a tad overweight? He looks a bit chunkier to me this year. Hope he's not hitting the weights too much....or the buffet table either

Yeah, I heard that before the Nets game, but his playing time disappeared before that.
