How is Carlisle's defence this year?
Better than Dwane Casey's. (With arguably even worse personnel)

Ross is a bad defender, as is JV. Can their lack of progress on the defensive end be at least partially pinned on Casey? I can't argue Casey shouldn't bear part of the blame.
Nobody wants to talk about that though, because JV is pretty much God in this forum. The next Wilt Chamberlain. Raps should run the offence through him!

And Ross, he's a better player than DeRozan. The next TMac, the next Ray Allen! Should be the Raptors starting 2 guard going forward according to the same people

Tell me though, how good do you think any C with a similar physical package to JV would look in this D?

Hard to say M. Gasol would've won a DPOY trying to play this system. Or Roy Hibbert would look like a DPOY candidate.

JV is young and has lots to learn, but his D is not the big problem with the system and the team's struggles. There's more blame to spread around to players, as well as a big chunk to go to the system.

Following up on Carlisle and the Mavs angle....Do they still run the same system? If they do (I've only seen them 3 or 4 times this year and didn't pay that close attention), and they're ranked 18th in the league in DRTG (per bballref), with the ideal C for the system, it shows that it's a lot more complex than having a mobile C.

*And seriously, way to exaggerate and try to be divisive. Nobody thinks Jonas is the 2nd coming of Wilt. However he's a true C with a physical/skills package to go with it. And Casey's trying to use him almost exclusively in his areas of greatest weakness on both ends for the past 2 years. Thank goodness he's at least shown decent improvement in the post, otherwise he'd only touch the ball on offensive rebounds.

Stop it! It's the same shit again and again with JV. No one is telling JV to jack up 40 shots or have a 30% usage rate. All we're saying is to involve him in the offense by giving him some touches and generate some ball movement instead of playing that ugly iso offense.

btw...JV is no Wilt, but Lowry is no Iverson and DD is no Kobe.

Nothing wrong with the system. It's pretty simple really what's going on defensively. It's about effort and energy. The guards are getting beat off the dribble way too easily. Lowry and Ross specially.

Nelson traded assets to upgrade their D with Rondo. Now at 106.5, (18th) vs the Raptors 107.6 (22nd) And one could just as easily argue Raptors personnel are worse - Rondo and Chandler are starters, although as a group both are bad.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

Lmao, simple when you are watching and analyzing. Teams that used similar defensive structure had multiple superstars and those teams still struggled to keep up with the system. Think before you speak.

The system is designed for the guards to be beat and push them towards the rotated help.

Then the other team makes 1 pass and we have to rotate 3 more players to cover for that. Completely rubbish system.

Help and rotating defenses can get exposed quite easily, hence why we are seeing some of the best defenses in the league running to kill picks or switch rather than help and rotate (Bulls, Mem, GS).

Hence the term arguably....but we've been plummeting for a while. And we haven't been that good defensively under Casey for most of his tenure here.

I think he was a better head coach than Jay Triano... Same roster!

Triano almost made the playoffs with a crappy roster led by Rupaul, Primo Pasta, Hedo Ball Turkoglu and rookie Demar. They were a top 5 team in the East before Rupaul decided to shut himself down after the all-star game to head south beach. Yes they were very bad defensively, but their offense was entertaining to watch - no iso/hero ball, lots of ball movement.

How many times did we get blown out last year?
Because it's happened 3 of the last 7 games
we only lost 3 games by more than 10 points (spurs twice, & clippers). none were by 20.

We were that grind it out, always in games team even durring the tanking years, but now the wins and losses are coming dependant on hot shooting nights.
Either the system has been figured out by now, or guys have stopped listening.
this is not a slump people, this system has been exposed.

His lack of passing and swinging the ball is killing the offense. The defense has always been shitty. Now its just people have scouted enough games to know that Lou wants to go left. That Demar gets the ball off pindowns. That ross catches the ball, takes 3 to 4 dribbles and attempts a three. Not rocket science. Casey's system is just terrible.
