I want Casey gone too but only if Masai already has an elite coach lined up. I don't wanna do the typical Raptors thing where we fire one bad-to-average coach and replace them with another bad-to-average coach. That's not going to make any tangible difference for us. Absolutely hate the way this guy has the team playing, but if we're replacing him I want to get the best of the best so we don't have to deal with inept coaching anymore.

Casey does not build his Reppers Game, He reps to their weakness, instead of to their strength.
WHY WOULD SOMEONE TELL PATTERSON TO Drive???
every game Patterson is driving like he is Lowry, and he CAN'T DRIVE!!.
Johnson should Start, Bebe needs to Start, The ting is this,
BEBE was an SUPERSTAR DEFENDER INSIDE THE SPANISH LEAGUE!!!! YET HE DOES NOT EVEN REP MOST GAMES.
Love Biyombo, BUT HE IS A HORRID OFFENCE REPPER, Bebe can pass, shoot, rebound, block shots, and hit freethrows, so why Bebe naw start???
Casey is Not building the Team....
Casey is as vindictive and EGO driven as Darrel walker when he refused to rep Tracy Mcgrady....

Masai needs to do his homework, but much like draft night, it is a leap of faith for any hire.Heir, Prince of Cambridge

I'm just saying that some of the names I've seen tossed out as replacements so far just aren't worth the trouble. Saw Malone when he got fired from the Kings, Kevin McHale, etc. Like these guys are good I guess, but they're not special coaches. No point swapping Casey for them (and Casey drives me nuts).
I look at it the same way as a player almost. If you wanna be elite you either need to get yourself an unproven coach who has the potential to be special (Kerr being a recent example, and Kevin Ollie being a prospective one)... which is easier to access but harder to find. Or get yourself a proven elite coach, which is harder to access (these coaches are almost never available, SVG is the only one I can think of recently besides Thibs, but he wanted to be GM also) but easier to find.

I'm sure Colangelo thought the same thing when he hired Casey.
Many people seem to be scared of hiring an "unproven" coach, but like you (I assume), I think this is the best way of finding a really great one. Again, it's much like the draft. Do your homework to put yourself in the best position to choose the right one, but at the end of the day, a leap of faith is required.Heir, Prince of Cambridge

So, if you're looking at going the college route, you need someone who basically is bulletproof like a Billy Donovan cause I don't think it's a job conducive to a first-time pro coach. Since those guys are unlikely to take the job (Donovan took the OKC job cause he's got Westbrook and Durant) then you need to look at the pros and I think it's a tough sell job for an established head coach, which leaves you looking at the assistant ranks where you could wind up with Mike Budenholzer or Casey Part II.
As an aside, a lot of premier guys might be excluded if they want input into player personnel decisions at a strategic level cause MU is the guy and he may balk at that kind of arrangement. Something to consider when big name guys get tossed out there as possibilities.

I just think that Masai hasn't fired Casey this past offseason because he hasn't found or been able to access that guy that he thinks could take the team to the next level yet. And not because of some nonsensical devotion to Casey. I still believe Masai is a very intelligent GM.
And some teams don't fire their coaches thinking they already have an elite replacement lined up. Who did the Rockets replace McHale with? What about Sacramento with Mike Malone and now possibly even thinking about firing his replacement?

I think Masai is taking his time and letting Casey expire. I do feel that this is a mistake by Masai but at least a somewhat defendable one.

As for Sacramento, I wouldn't look to anything they did as an indicator of smart decision making.Heir, Prince of Cambridge

I wouldn't want to be in MU's shoes if he were to fire Casey mid season. Back to bak first seeds in the Atlantic, two of the best regular seasons the franchise has ever had and you fire the coach that did all that for you? Yeesh! MU would get roasted league wide by media et all.

I can hear Sir Charles now..."that was a turble decision by Toronto", followed by a Stephen A. Smith rant asking "What is Toronto doing?!"
Still think Casey lasts until the end of season. If we don't make it past the first round he's gone.
