I mean what more can the guy do with the players he has? With 2Pat out he doesn't have a competent power forward or any big in the frontcourt who is good defensively.

He doesn't have a big wing defender since Carroll is an absolute fucking turnstile.
We didn't need a big wing defender yesterday. Butler and Wade are both around 6'5. McBuckets is about 6'6.

He didn't have to play Carroll and Bebe over 40 minutes. Ross, Powell, JV and Poeltl were all available to play. And considering its the first game of a b2b.. he should have stretched out his bench a lot more than he did.

Casey screwed up last night. He's had more successes than failures this season.. but last night he could have been much better even if 2Pat wasn't playing.

It's very quiet isn't it? Before yesterday, the last post was 10 months ago in March 2016.....

TDotted - Can you bring that GIF of Magic Johnson eating popcorn over to the Demarre Carroll thread? Yikes.
      Lol. This one works too...

Casey had a bad game, but it happens. Every NBA team has at east one heroic comeback game per season for and against. That was the Bulls and hopefully our only against.

      • I say this as probably one of the bigger Casey critics in this thread, but he's earned the right for this debate to be on hold until after the playoffs--and beyond, if we do reasonably well relative to our expectations.

Oh I wasn't really talking about last night. Last night he definitely screwed up and Carroll shouldn't have been playing.

Agreed, but if he continues to play Carroll large minutes and Bebe large minutes over JV (when he is playing well), this debate is going to come quicker than you think.

Last night playing Carroll was an issue but in general what can he do? Carroll is the only small forward on the team. Ross and Powell are not 3s and if we play a team like the Knicks or Cleveland or Milwaukee or Indiana with big, scoring SFs they are going to get eaten alive.

Just so frustrating. Only other SF we have is Bruno "The Useless One" Caboclo who is still playing at the level of a D2 athlete.

Well you can play Carroll more minutes when there is a bigger, taller SF. For the record, Powell did well defending PG in the Playoffs. Powell does well only if the bigger SF does not have a post up game. He can't guard Melo.

As TRex already said, Carroll should be used in the way James Johnson was used. Used only in matchups where he is needed, for example against a guy like Melo.

That is not going to happen.

                  • This is why we need to target a guy who can play the 3 & 4 with at least average defense more than anything.

Could it be bec Masai & Co want to see what Carroll can do before playoffs?
As some have indicated maybe our problem is more at 3 than PF?
Would we rather find out now than at playoffs? Maybe Millsap is not the only Hawk Masai has sight on?

The reality is 3 and 4 are both big problems. In fact you might be right that 3 is a bigger problem than 4 because at 4 we have Patterson who actually isn't worthless like Carroll.

And Sullinger once he comes back. Behind Carroll, who is terrible, Raptors don't have a legit bench SF.

                            Not unexpected after last night.

Definitely the worst coached game of the season thus far.
