Hahaha pointing to one play is irrelevant, the end result is 2-points, and the end result is a career with no championships, no finals, no mvps, no 1st team selections, no defensive accolades, no individual awards outside of a ROY.

He was very famous though, so maybe that's your criteria for the Hall of Fame. Mine is excellence at the sport, which is a test he doesn't pass.
Actually, the decision to dunk is very relevant from a pure basketball context. On that play, Carter's other options are a mid-range jumpshot, a floater, or a pass - with a premier shot blocker protecting the paint. Basically you go from a 45% FG% shot to literally, a sure thing, slam dunk. 2-pts was not 2-pts, as you are suggesting, in that case.

There are only a handful of players who've ever played the game that would have even attempted that play, yet for Carter he easily turned that into a high percentage shot. And he did that on slightly more than just one play.

Based solely on that he never got 1st nba team selections or mvps? there were ALOT of guards in that era, Kidd, Payton, Nash, Kobe, AI..getting the all nba nod was a steep feat.

Lots of guys in the Hall never won a chip. I would wager a couple never made finals. Lots never won MVP.
Wilkins, Stockton, Malone, Miller, Barkley, all never won championships for example.

Letter n talks like a guy who never watched vince carter, he just likes to boo him with the toronto fans and seen a bunch of highlightss. Quick rundown of his points:
-hes a dunking specialist, and that's not a skill
-dunking doesn't help the end game result, its just showboating
-3 point shooting, now that's a skill (vince 8th all time in made 3s)
-vince carter was not excellent at basketball.

Seemss like he's being punished for leaving toronto, and for not having that MJ/kobe type intensity. But it isn't the hall of intensity. They look at stats, and impact. Vince had both.

          1) I watched almost every game Vince played in Toronto.
          2) It's not about intensity it's about being the best of the best which he wasn't, if he was he'd be on All-NBA teams.
          3) Longevity and Dunk Contests shouldn't be the main reason you should be honoured among the legends of the sport.

If throughout your 18-year career the best you've ever been considered is top 4 at your position once, and top 6 once, then you don't deserve to be considered as one of the best of all time.

I would also add he currently sits 25th all time in points scored.

and 2 more years, on last years points would give him 700 more total points making him the 23rd all time, just ahead Iverson and just behind Ray Allen.

If he repeats his Dallas performance over the next 2 season he will get about 1600 more points which would put him above Jerry West in the top 20 all time.

That alone is another reason for hall of fame.

All NBA does mean best at your position, it means that you get voted on as a member based on what grouping you fall into. You have PGs as SGs on those lists, you have SFs as Sgs.

All-NBA is the most objective look at who experts in the game believed were the best for the season. It's much more reliable than All-Star voting which is a bunch of kids and bored people willing to fill out surveys.

And PG don't take SG spots, the only times things like that happen are when they legitimately play multiple positions, like a Lebron counting as a 3 or a 4.

If you're not willing to accept All-NBA then you're not willing to accept logic when it comes to player ranking.

I don't know where you got this idea that only the very best of the best get into thhe hall of fame. Maybe you should have a gander at who's actually in the hall. Lots of guys who just had nice long productive careers. I don't remember dennis rodman ever being the best at his position or even top 2 player on his own team. But next you'll say "count the ringzz" and your arguments will round into a full circle.

All NBA Second team in 2000 was

                        Dikimbe
                        Garnett
                        Carter
                        Kobe
                        McGrady

Pretty sure none of those guys played PG.

Must have been because he played Point Guard that year.

Calm down. I think I'm talking to a brick wall. YOU went on a multi post diatribe about multiple all nba and being the best of the best of the best at your poistion being a hall of fame prerequisite. I pointed out dennis rodman, who was never those things, he was arguably the greatest role player of all time. But yknow, keep moving the goal posts because you dislike vince personally.
