On the other hand, if Russell was hanging out with Matt Barnes all season instead of Nick Young then there's no chance something like this happens.

The Lakers brass were too busy with Kobe's farewell tour that they left their rookies and young players to fend for themselves. Kobe has probably never said 3 words to any of them off the court and I'm not sure they'd want Metta to. Hibbert, Bass and Lou Williams have been around the league a while but they aren't exactly invested in the Lakers.

It's a good thing the city and legacy are so appealing because the team is a huge mess.
