lol dude is averaging one FGA less than last year and talks about "sacrifice"
More hilarious than that: Fred "sacrificed" for 6 whole games in October. In Nov/Dec, he's back up to exactly the same FGA/game as his "all-star" year. 6 games, lol.

The best quote was "just watch Freddy bail us out every time". lmao. I guess that's part of the whole "irrational confidence" that you need to succeed at the highest level. Dion Waiters would be proud.

i think the word "try" is a pretty key part of that quote and omitting it is pretty disingenuous.

also yes his FG attempts went up in the games we've had guys out due to injury, what would anybody expect?

anyhow before this season i liked the idea of retaining fred in an off-ball 3rd/4th option (behind pascal and scottie) role for his two-way play and leadership abilities, but am starting to feel differently now because it's apparent his body might be breaking down. but the vitriol towards him around here is getting absurd. (and would be better directed towards the coaching staff in my opinion, as it's clear neither the offense or defense are clicking).

      • People still using FGA to describe usage.. when there is a stat for usage. Fred's way more off ball than usual. He went more on ball when Siakam got hurt. But that stopped. And his statements are again an example of what I mean by him being a franchise player here. It may not be healthy but that franchise crown went to both Pascal and Fred as soon as Lowry left the team.

If the Raptors suck/fail to make the playoffs then the culture likely needs a reset. And that's what Masai did with DeMar and Kyle. He gave them chances.. and plenty of chances. Eventually he got tired of it and made a change. He was about to trade both (Lowry for Conley was legit). He kept one.

Masai gave DeMar and Kyle 4 chances (actually 5, but not counting that first year since it was supposed to be a rebuild).

Pascal and Fred, at the head of the table, have played in 2. This is their 2nd. It's not a great start. But I suspect Fred to get at least 2 more years as a Raptor before any move is made. I don't think Masai or Bobby care about fan pressure. They want to create a championship. But they won't also give up on their guys as quickly as fans would.

I definitely expect Fred back. But it likely won't be a long term deal. Maybe at most a 3+1 with a team option.. but they love player options, so my bet is a 2+1 with that +1 being a player option again. And Masai giving more than market to get the term he wants.

Maybe Masai changes course though early. But I doubt it.

          Fred's USG last year: 23.7%.

          This year...

          Oct: 16.6% (6 games)
          Nov: 25.9%
          Dec: 23.8%

Fred sacrificed for 6 games. lol. His USG has actually increased over last year, since then.

notice how low his usage was in the only games we were healthy? (which were the first 7… he missed game 8 and pascal went down in game 9).

There were games played without Pascal right?

Pascal played games 1-9, missed games 10 through 19.. and then played 20-35.

              Here's Fred's usage break down:

              Games 1-9: 15.7%
              Games 10-19 (without Pascal): 26.1%
Games 20-35: 22.9% (less than last year's number).

And some of those games 20-35 were without OG. Plus Scottie has been brutal for a lot of that season, so Fred having to do more because there are less guys that are stepping up.

I'm not saying Fred is without fault.. but his usage has been pretty good this year. It's not the stat to nitpick. His 3pt shooting and overall defense has been shite.

I'm no longer Freddy's biggest fan but one thing he never does is back down from a challenge.
His body is breaking down now and I actually doubt he'll ever play a full season.

He will have his moments for sure, he can will himself to nights that he is looking more like his old self. But definitely not sustainable.

Signing him to another contract as a result clearly jeopardizing the development of Scottie Barnes is the biggest risk Masai and Bobby would face in their careers.

The trade deadline is the easiest excuse to say that the decision is a business move…do good on him because of what he has done for this organization.

                      Time to move on

There's also a lot of big names near him.

I see freddy is having serious issues right now but it would be nice to see some way to keep him and find a way back to old form. If he's not healthy now he should be resting.

I dont understand the name calling and anger, this is a recreational sport we watch, not life or death if they lose due to any player.

Name the guards on teams that we are likely to face in the playoffs, that he can keep up with.....it's eye opening.
