But it’s not just the Clips. The Magic picked the defence apart, too. In fact, pretty much every team shots the lights out against Toronto. There’s a problem with defence in the half court that goes beyond missing shots and losing to good teams.
By the way the Magic scored more against Boston and Atlanta than they did against us.
Defense is an issue but so is offense, debatable which is a bigger issue at the moment.
I think we need a roster shakeup, a scheme switch isn't going to fix everything.

Nothing is currently looking good for the team.
Halfcourt defense has issues. Shooting is a big issue. There are a lot of problems, but Nick is right in that missing open shots leads to the other team running often in transition and the defense suffers more because of it.

Blah ba blah ba blah….
Nick Nurse and all of VanVleet kool-aid drinkers should be more specific by turning their main focus on the dismal shooting of VanVleet ….
The player TS% is 52%, with 38% FG and a shitty 33% from the three point line where he mainly generates his offense 54% of the time.
Just be fucking honest.

The harsh reality is (all being generally healthy) do people expect to compete with
Celtics. No
Bucks. No
Nets. No
Sixers. No
NOP. No
Nuggets. No
Clippers. No
Suns. No
Mavs. No
Lakers (if healthy). No
GSW. Maybe but no.
Should they at least compete with the Cavs, Kicks, Heat, Pacers, Hawks, Blazers, Jazz? Yes, of course
Would any of these teams represent easy series wins? No.
According to Masai, this is a bad place to be....

We know Nurse is a championship coach if has the players. His team has over achieved every season. The team is struggling big time this season so maybe they are due or maybe they dig themselves out of it. I think he deserves the opportunity to prove himself.

But the only thing that irks me was when for whatever reason egged him to demote Trent Jr. and that 1 game benching of Barnes. The team was still 1 game above 500. Considering the injuries but from that point, it all went downhill from there.
What is more asinine is him continuing to start a bonafide 10-12th man in Bo Cuz over Trent. Only stupid would agree to that idea because of a hate on a player.
RPM is fine and dandy when someone is trying to prove a point that he has a *sliver of knowledge in advanced stats lol but the one flaw of that specific metric is that it does not take into account one thing ….and that is….
wait for it…
CHEMISTRY
a number cruncher would not understand that.
Nurse for a guy who is lauded as a coach who thinks outside of the box failed in recognizing it.

Last season Trent looked like he could be the second best player on a good team on some nights. This year he just looks like a role player. That has accepted that role. There's no longer the idea of all 5 guys on the court all being able to to make a play. It's very much a stagnant offence. Pass it to Pascal and see what he does with it.

Oh I a gree. And it's not just because you and I are probably the only two guys on the forum that think Trent belongs in the starting line up. Having said that Trent was really bad on defense to start the season so maybe Nurse had to make that move.

Both GTJr and Koloko praised their coach after the game. Calling the team out could go either way but it worked, at least for one night
“He wanted us to be accountable, be better, [that we] can’t accept anything like the performance we put on [against the Clippers],” said Trent Jr. “It was a must win today.”

No argument there, Trent is a complementary player/ role player in a good team. But to isolate him, called him out and to this day benching him over Bo Cruz who we all know is far from being a stellar defensive player is the biggest blunder of his coaching strategy this season…if Defense is the Reason of the demotion.
