Kawhi might have a chance with the right brand... it could be something that's quiet, reliable and performs at a high level. But the 'just passing through' image is going to be a problem.
Raptors’ Kyle Lowry flexes marketing clout with Sport Chek deal

“I play in Canada and it’s a big market, and there’s a lot of deals that are thrown at you,” Lowry said at a news conference announcing the partnership. “When you’re an all star you get a lot more attention (than in the past).”
“It’s not about right place, right time. It all starts from who the athlete is,” says Brian Cooper, president of S&E Sponsorship group, which helped broker the deal. “Kyle is probably the most relatable of all the Raptors… He’s the everyday man that works his tail off, and speaks those values to both youth and that brand.”
“He’s a real adopted basketball citizen to Canada and not just another player passing through,” Widdis says. “He has a real chance to have an association with the Raptors that can extend beyond the life of his contract.”
