probably. Although he might sign 1/1's until has 10 years and then sign a max.
That's true. These can be risky for the player though, especially if there's a history of injuries, and as they approach age 30 and/or 10 yrs, whether they're playing at the "max" level may not be a given anymore. It's an option though.

Also after his last year and the next 6 months he may want some quiet time. Plus say he takes a 3 or even 4 year deal he could easily still be a max player after that with his style of play and taking care of his body with rest etc.

With the Lakers and Clippers having cap room. There is the scenario that Kawhi wants to go to L.A. but doesn't care which team, so they work out a deal where Toronto signs a max and trades him to the L.A. team that offers something.

        *in the offseason of course.

**Ignore the above if its against the rules of the CBA.
It's not against the rules, there's just no reason for the LA teams to agree to it, as the only reason for teams to participate in sign and trades is if they don't have the cap room to offer the deal, and both teams probably will. The 5th year and higher raises aren't available in sign and trades anymore.

More likely he'd sign a 2+1 this summer to minimize the risk, while getting the opt out for the 10 year vet re-signing.

Or take the full 4+1 if security is more important to him.

          • Kawhi~! My favorite player! Best defensive player of the year for me! Hopefully, he will be selected again.

Not gonna happen. He doesnt guard the other teama beat player anymore. Danny green has a better chance at the award then kawhi cause nick perfers danny to guard the other team beat guard

For sure not during the regular season at least, which is when those awards are won.
He may defend top competitors more once it’s the postseason.
I’d prefer him to win postseason awards to regular season ones.

He's nearly Fred's height, and would be challenging to guard, as he could drive to the rim through your legs
