$60-$70M sounds amazing for a four year deal.

A note on Jonas and defense. Apparently the Raptors had the worst Keep-in-Front % in the league. Meaning our defenders often had their assignments get by them quite easily.

Jonas is probably way better than our system makes it seem.
    Stats from Vantage Sports BTW.

Also, only 5 teams hedge on more than 60% of PnRs and we're one of them.

This goes against the notion of "needing" a very mobile rim protector.

Is this sarcasm? It seems such a common rant that I'm actually not sure!
Yup. You have a common sense approach. Keep it up.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

But everyone here blames Casey. Though jack Armstrong (I believe) begs to differ. Anyone agree that the Raptors have been patient ... rather than that Casey has been incompetent (in this respect)?
Nope, Dummy defensive coach benches JV and JJ while allowing constant penetration and poor rebounding.

I guess "patient" is one way to put it. I dont think this "patience" has really helped his development or the team tho, which i guess makes it incompetent patience? It doesnt really makes sense to me to say that jv isnt ready to play bigger minutes or get more touches given his efficiency. The best explanation ive heard is his limited passing ability, especially out of double teams, but still why not give him the experience over the course of an 82 game season so that by playoffs or even next season he has a better idea of what to do? You could say that he hurts the defense when he is out there but i dont think that has to do with patience on the part of the org as much as caseys system not playing to jvs strengths.

          • Dissapointed with this JV's decission. I don't believe that Casey would let him play in 4th quarter and let him develop as much as JV can. If JV will not become an elite C, it will be Casey's fault because of his distrust. Or, something changes with those two "super-stars" DD and Lowry.

No way! Casey is a defensive specialist, there is no way he employ such a terrible defensive scheme

Haha, you're probably right, especially on that analogy.

                  • Well of course the Raptors are going to have a bad keep in front percentage lol. We gave heavy minutes to guys like Vasquez and Lou who are basically sieves defensively. Plus our scheme was pretty horrible because our defense was almost never set and locked in.

Hoping that changes this year with better defenders getting more minutes

                    • I don't think it was the scheme more of the players executing it

                        • Great to hear JV will be a Raptor for the next few years. Great to see keeping his mins. and touches below average saved the Raptors big bucks! Now release the Kracken!!

is jv a great defender, no, he is certainly more than adaquate and was one of the teams best last season.

The problem was that casey put him into position to fail continuously. When the coach says that a fantasticly mobile and defensive based center would fail in his system............

That's a good deal for JV even if the cap remained the same. Considering it's about to blow up....not sure what his agent is thinking.
