Unlike last year, i'm actually seeing some improvement this year. His defence and low post game is getting better. Don't like the Pero Antic look though.
He was huge against the Pelicans, at both ends of the floor. Looked really good all around. He's getting good at jumping straight up to contest/stop drives without getting the foul called. He always used to swing an arm down.

    • He is clearly our best offensive option yet he is only taking 9.5 shots per game. #pleasefirecasey

      • Jonas is 6th in the NBA in WS/48. The guy has come a long way in a pretty short amount of time. Any chance Casey is a better developmental coach than you think he is?

Very unlikely. What we are seeing from JV was the draft report on him, he has never had much opportunity to produce for this team in a major way.

One of the chief complaints about Casey's us of JV is failing to give JV experience in the 4th Q and big situations. The game where Lowry dumped the ball off to JV in the last moments (Orlando game I think) would likely represent the first time that JV has had the ball in his hands with a chance to win the game. If he has been given more opportunities these last few seasons, maybe he is more poised in that situation and wins the game for us (despite getting the ball out of position on a broken play).

JV is talented and has worked hard to improve. Free him from Casey ball (guard dominated) and he could put up huge numbers ala Drummond.

                    • JV may be the best center in the east. Need to watch some Drummond as he maybe JVs only competition...see who's better

Best part about JV despite his rediculous offensive efficiency is how good he has been defensively in the new system

No. Andy *cough* Greer. Thanks, Masai.

If you want some context, just read this Casey "cover your ass" interview, as late as this summer, and barely a month before Andy Greer was hired. Casey was in full-on lower-the-expectations mode about how Jonas would be used this season. Yet like everybody else last season not named Casey, even the blogger is suggesting the obvious system changes required (e.g. ICE'ing PnR & JV hanging back in the paint). I think we can all agree that last season was a total developmental waste for Jonas and the team with respect to system-personnel fit.

I don't know. Drummond, Whiteside and Horford are pretty damn good. Gasol is playing at 5 now.

                          • Team's barely go at JV in the p'n'r anymore, because there's no point. But last year, it was literally the entire league's go-to play against the raptors.
