Jonas Valanciuanas was drafted into the Lithuanian military Monday. He is exempt but says he will for sure participate somehow this summer.

Jonas Valanciunas vs Putin.. This summer on PPV!
Dude on the Raptors subreddit made a joke about JV pump faking with his rifle on the shooting range and I died https://t.co/RNtIprK6vI

Just to bold this part; as it's my biggest fault with Lowry but I also have zero issue with it as well as it's a good problem to have."My biggest concern as a coach is to not confuse winning with progress." - Steve Kerr

In the 12 games he's played since returning from injury he's racked up 19 assists, hitting 2+ in 6 of those games, including 5 of the past 6 (13 assists in those 6 games).

Post-injury, JV seems like he's playing a lot smarter.
He's had some inconsistency in his offensive game (scoring for himself), and i really wish he would stop trying to finish with layups rather than dunks.
Some of that gets amplified in your mind when he only takes 5-10 shots a game.
I think, as has been discussed to death, he needs to be more involved by design and the confidence and consistency will come back.
But the defence is becoming very good, and he's hitting passes that he wouldn't have seen before.
Very good signs.

Offensive chemistry does seem to be getting better and better - at least esthetically."We're playing in a building." -- Kawhi Leonard

Some very nice cross court and skip passes now to 3 pt shooters instead of bail out passes. Guards attacking the rim then dishing to a big straight under the basket look good. Jonas kicking the ball back out to the perimeter and looking like he actually knows where a guy's gonna be looks good too.

Valanciunas is defending post-ups like an animal this season.
In 58 post-ups against him this season (a bit over 2 per game), he's holding opponents to 22.9% shooting and 0.45 PPP which is in the 98.7th percentile. He also sees post-ups with the highest frequency on our team.
Actually he's statistically the best post-defender in the entire NBA this season, as he's 1st in oPPP among bigs with more than 10 post up against them this year.
Where he struggles is in pick and roll defense, as he's actually been the worst pick and roll defending big in the league this season giving up 1.28 PPP and 60.6% shooting in 36 of these situations. The thing is, none of our bigs really defend the P&R well except 2Pat (70th percentile), Scola is barely better than JV and even Biyombo is in the 48th percentile, which is below average.
What stings about this is that our boy, Chris Bosh has been the best pick and roll man defender this season among bigs, giving up just 0.57 PPP and 26.7% shooting (Aldridge isn't far behind him), just even more of an argument for how perfect a fit he'd be with JV lol.
