I find football completely unwatchable. The referees aren’t game officials anymore; they’re now league-network game mechanics.

I think it's just unintentionally bad officiating. The two holds late game could easily have been mistook for legit by the officials. His hand was right up near the facemask. It's easy to armchair quarterback that stuff when you have slow motion closeups. Not so easy when you're the one on the field in a very proud arena and a lot happening to get that right. They should have got it right though and the NFL needs to do better with training officials or consider a more robust challenge system.
