Payne will still count as a default 1 year deal. Players cannot be dropped without a pick-up in-season and auction players only count for zero when auto-drafted and completed by the first waiver. Since none of those scenarios apply, Payne is a 1 year deal against your cap (once you complete a transaction in Yahoo). Joey FYI

You can, but he still counts. His auction contract defaults to 1 year as of today. He wasn't auto-drafted, or completed by the first waiver - those are the only times someone can be removed from your yahoo team "for free".
