It works only for a player that was drafted in the rookie draft in August. His first contract is DPE eligible, meaning he can be re-signed along with up to 2 other players in a given year when contracts reach 0 years remaining.

In your case, Taylor Hendricks is on a 1 year DPE contract. After this season, you can re-sign him and any 2 players you have that have 1 year left on their contract right now.

Just to add on to this, it's a sort of "Restricted Free Agency" to enable owners to keep Rookies they have drafted in house, and not have to choose between them and a standard Free Agent.

Only one DPE (Designated Player Extension) can used per off-season to extend players.

Can you guys please cancel and re-do the trade in yahoo? Mars should include a "Round 2" pick and I guess WJF can add a late pick(Round 15) to avoid future confusion on the draft pick being traded.

And apologies for slowing down the draft with the autodrafting. No idea why Yahoo would have the autodrafter bid after the full 2 minutes or whatever rather than immediately. Makes no sense. Even like a 5 second gap so if someone was real keen to punch in a big bid increase they could.
