I’ve made some really good trades and I’ve made some really bad trades. I can’t recall what the Sabonis trade was but I think the assets either went into landing Giannis or Luka later. Either way, never did I think that Sabonis would be this good. I probably got fleeced on that one.

I don’t think it’s ever been done in the offseason. I think what will happen is it will change the offseason and the auction forever. Getting the top player at the auction will be about collecting FAAB instead of random auction order and fastest bid. It would be interesting but a lot different. If this goes through, whatever the FAAB amount is, Coach will be guaranteed the best free agent; unless someone else also sells a player for even more FAAB.

I’ll also say, that’s a pretty creative trade offer. These are the sort of happenings that make the league really interesting and complicated.

Well when’s the cutoff? Last year we waited days and then said nope. I think we need a definitive answer on this. Technically the draft has been over for over 12 hours. So how much extra time? A day, a week, August 31st?

I'd say since he is active he has today. I think we obviously have to be reasonable. Someone can't sit on it until training camp.
But the spirit of the decision was not to penalize someone from having life stuff and missing the window.
Coach has no advantage picking 16th today vs yesterday.
My vote would be let him pick. The FAAB money trade is a separate topic.

Pretty sure that the Yahoo Commish CP allows for custom FAAB settings for each team, or used to anyway; in recent years they’ve begun removing some of the customization and paywalling it.

Yes, I already have to fully manually edit everyones FAABs in the system before the draft.
Will just be a small adjustment to consider if any trades have taken place.

I think one solution is we allow each team to carry over up to $100 from the previous year (which we can maybe go back and calculate who had what left over, though that might be lost ..), which makes for a potential Maximum of $300 spending going into each Auction, if you were smart with your money last year.

We can also cap how much can be traded at one time at $50, AND we can even tax it. So you have to trade $75 in order to actually trade $50 sort of thing.

And then it's just a number to track in each teams Cap Sheet, which should be easy enough to monitor and track.

Not to mention that by doing this I am now incurring a huge disadvantage going into the Auction, basically putting me out of contention for any top tier FA.

In would be opposed to doing the FAAB update right now. That idea changes alot and no one took that into consideration when using money last year or trading this offseason. It's simply not enough time for managers to consider the changes and properly evaluate the upcoming FA market.
We also use years as our salary cap so now what is FAAB money? We are putting in two separate salary caps to think about for free agents.

PM's salary cap is now at 40. His FAAB is down to $95.
Apollo's salary cap is now at 39. His FAAB increases to $30.


The Invaders welcome Danny Green and his championship experience to their locker room. They look forward to many 3 pointers with his defensive intangibles in the next couple of years.

So it seems there is precedence for this already.


As for rolling over previous years FAAB into the new year, I'm cool with it, but I don't want to start this year with that. I emptied my wallet last season thinking that it would reset this year. If I knew it could carry over I might not have done that. I don't think we should penalize teams who get boned because of a new rule.

Ultimately I'm good with this Joey/Coach trade, and to allow Coach to have more FAAB this auction. Should still get league approval since its before the auction but I'm voting yes.

Agree we can look to implement the carry over next off-season. That makes sense. IF people want to go that route.

But not sure what you mean about "now what is FAAB money"? And "two separate salary caps"? It has literally always been a thing for teams to manage, and an asset to trade.

I think it does sort of become a 2nd second salary cap system. Everyone has the same amount to start the year and it gets reset. So it's a level playing field for free agent. Essentially competive teams who are making more waiver moves in season will not be able to sign the top free agents. So more competive teams wont have the cap space to get bigger names. Not necessarily a bad thing, could even the playing field year to year. Just something to consider.
Right now aside from the couple $200 bids guys, free agent auction is based on how well manager can identify breakout or undervalued players.
Roll over will sort of be another tool for tanking teams to get good players under contract. By not making in season moves and saving $ for off season.

The big question is do we have enough parity? Can guys rises up fast enough without getting top draft picks?

I could be convinced either way (and i have been at the bottom of league and FAAB spend since i took my team over) so it would likely benefit me to say let's do it lol
