It's a damn good deal for the Jays. There could be a chance that one (Napoli or Rivera) or neither starts the season with the Jays.
Napoli crushes left handed pitching, so he could be in at first when lefties are out there. Or he could DH. Rivera at this point isn't very good in the field and should be used sparingly. The Jays could also eat his $6 M salary and let him be a FA.

Well that was a short stay for Napoli. Traded to the Rangers today for Francisco.

This is an even better trade. Francisco was due to be a type-A free agent, but accepted salary arbitration from the Rangers. If he has another solid season coming up, he's sure to retain that type-A free agent status and should he choose to leave for greener pastures after this coming season, it means the Jays will get 2 first round picks.

Bautista, Blue Jays nearing five-year deal

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- The Blue Jays and slugger Jose Bautista appear to be on the verge of reaching an agreement on a long-term contract.

The club has scheduled a news conference for 5 p.m. ET on Thursday that will air on MLB.com, live from Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The latest development comes just one day after multiple online reports indicated that Bautista was close to signing a five-year contract worth $65 million.

Toronto officials would not specify whether the news conference was about Bautista, but all signs indicate the club will officially announce a long-term contract extension for the Dominican native.

I'm not sure I'm feeling this.. How'd they go from 7.6m a year to 12 ish? We just got Wells off the books.. Granted, this isn't as big, but it better have some kind of conditions and options included in this..

I like how versatile a player he is, but I'd have to give him certain conditions in the contract based on his play next year.. He could easily bomb like Hill and Lind did.. What then?

..Although, there are probably risks in signing any contracts, I feel very conflicted.

I'm hoping that it's a 3-year deal with 2 club option years. AA reached on this deal bigtime. You can't just dole out money to guys because they're solid citizens. Ricciardi did it with Wells. However, I think somewhere the lightbulb came on with Bautista in regards to his swing. He won't hit 54 homers like last year, but he should reach 30 hrs and 100 rbi's. Is that worth 13 mil a season? Perhaps AA gave him the extra dough because JB was opposed to playing 3rd.

Well, the deal is final.. I caught the last few mins of the news conference, I haven't heard the details.. But it is 5 years, 65 million. I think there's an option for a 6th year though.. Well, we'll see if it pays off.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. 8m in 2011, 14m a year from '12-'15, and an option for 14m in '16.

5 years is a long time, I was hoping for 3 as well.. Here's to hoping this isn't the move that fucks up our whole rebuilding process..?

We're in a division with Boston and NYY, they have to spend the money! I was thinkin 3 years/$36 mil as well, but oh well. If Hill and Lind have comeback years this team could be very dangerous! Snider needs to break out as well...

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, can't wait for that Home Opener!!!

Yeah.. Snider had a decent year last year when he did play though.. He could be dangerous if he's healthy all year.. Let's hope for the best. I think Hill caught a lot of bad breaks last year, balls that were just shy of being home runs, line drives right at guys.. I think he can improve on his numbers a lot this year, pressure isn't so much on him and Lind as much as it was last year.
