Also, some who claim that people just want the economy to re-open so that they can just get their nails & hair done aren't thinking about everyone's business that's shut down. There are multiple other businesses that aren't nail & hair salons that are really hurting right now. And it isn't feasible for everyone to go and get jobs in essential services while their businesses are shut down or operating at a significantly reduced capacity.
You hear it all the time. "Derr you wanna kill your family so you can go eat chicken wings!"

Take the most extreme, of each example, skim over facts, focus on the one tree in the forest and make the entire thing seem like you're being trivial.

Frankly, when people head that direction in the discussion, they're not only insultingly stupid but they're wasting my time.

      • musk on rogan again. probably high as fuck, i didn't see the beginning, but he is pro open, understands that forced quarantine is house arrest, and against the rights of americans.

and he also believes we will see a much lower fatality rate than is being reported. life long science denier elon musk.

also i support the grandma killer who has had enough, is making the best choice for her and her family, and understands that other people don't get to make their decisions her decisions.

Take the most extreme, of each example, skim over facts, focus on the one tree in the forest and make the entire thing since like you're being trivial.

Was talking to a guy in town who runs a golf course. They opened day after Kenney announced they could open. Booked solid for 2 weeks within an hour. All the public courses are closed. Why? Private guy has been getting prepared since they closed, public guys are paralyzed by third rate lawyers on city staff who don't understand risk analysis and bureaucrats who can't move quickly because that requires making decisions without insulating themselves from consequence.

Nenshi is another example talking about how businesses need clear rules, etc. before doing anything. No, they need to take the reasonable steps necessary to make their customers/clients safe and use common sense in how they operate. Why are provincial government-mandated rules needed? Because that way no one has to use any sense or take any responsibility other than to blindly follow a list and check boxes even if they make no sense or are counter-productive. Of course, Nenshi's team could offer their own suggestions but then that would require taking responsibility and exercising leadership and being accountable and that is all anathema to them.

Stress is scientifically proven to physiologically weaken your immune system. You got a bunch of unemployed people fearful for their livelihood, petrified from the fear-mongering around this virus, while also cooped up at home fighting with their wives and kids, guess what, they're gonna get sick. Doesn't matter how much hand-sanitizer they're gobbling up.

The reality is you just can't simply have an entire population hide away from a virus. The way humans and other animals evolved over millenia to deal with these things is through development of their own individual immunity (which later translates into herd immunity that limits the spread and protects everyone). The way to achieve that is allowing people that are less vulnerable to live normally, while protecting the most vulnerable (in this case the elderly).

The reason we're seeing a slow-down of the virus in many areas is not because it's magically disappearing or because there's a medicine for it. It's because everyday there's tons of people developing a natural immunity to it after contracting it and recovering, despite every effort society is making to slow down that natural process.

We chose an artificial one-size-fits-all lockdown to hide away from this while we develop an artificial form of immunity in a lab (vaccine), which we don't know when or how effective it will be, while spending billions to support said lockdown (billions that could be spent in healthcare infrastructure instead and help deal with every other condition for decades).

Nenshi has spent the last 2 weeks talking about how scared and uneasy he is. He was a hero during the floods, people were starting to mumble about future prime minister material (I wasnt, but people were)

now hes just another lazy fat cat on city council. He hasnt done a noteworthy positive thing in years.
