Were any of the trade proposals including Lowry confirmed? It's probably a conversation for after the playoffs, but do you guys think Masai is looking to move him in the summer?
The only rumour I recall was Lowry for Conley (with Utah in the mix). Some media guys are saying that this was a real discussion the teams had.. others are saying it was hog wash and if there was a discussion it never went far.

We may never know the real truth.

It's not really hard to believe that Lowry was on the table though. Masai is going all in this year and if Lowry's struggles are a real thing than perhaps he was looking to move him now. On the other hand.. it could also have been a tactic to get Lowry to get re-engaged (and if true, it sort of worked.... he played well after the deadline).

    • I think everybody who was on the Raptors roster last year has either been traded or been involved in trade discussions between last July and the trade deadline

Sure, but it's more of a luxury than a necessity this season.
A luxury in the regular season, they're going to run into very good teams in multiple playoff rounds (hopefully) and will need everything clicking to go 4 rounds. Especially getting everything Lowry is capable of out of him.

That's the minimum expectation. But the Lowry tribe are out here playing defense early, trying to lower the performance bar to say he only needs to be a Rajon Rondo (without the slashing ability and less defense) so they can shift blame to everybody else if Lowry struggles again in the playoffs, ignoring the overall negative impact on your offense when your PG can't put any scoring pressure on the defense. Lowry needs to score consistently and make his 3's or else it's going to be really tough to win. Same goes with FVV to a lesser extent.
As one of the de facto leaders of the Lowry tribe, I resent that! I'm in here saying dude needs to score

People were exaggerating the original point which is that since last year and now the pressure to score for him is not the same. We don't need 18 to 20 and carrying the load with Derozan anymore, because we have Kawhi, and Siakam, and Gasol, and a resurgent Ibaka, all of which we didn't really have last year.

But, he still needs to score.

          • yeah I'm not saying him scoring 0 points would good. But to suggest that Lowry will be treated like Tony Allen or Joakim Noah is exaggerating. But at the end of the day MVP is Kawhi. Second best player is Pascal. Centre matchups in the East are more important. So how will Gasol deal with Embiid and Lopez and Horford? That matchup can swing the series. Lowry scoring 10-14 is afterthought.

He's being paid $30M a year. He needs to fucking perform.

So fucking what? His skills don't allow him to perform on that level anymore. Get over it

                • Like you're acting like he's young guy who we just gave this contract too and not like older guy who's gonna get salary dumped next year or year after that if Kawhi resigns.

Not necessarily. Tony Allen and Noah aren't primary ball handlers and don't initiate the offense - they only cramp the spacing. A PG who isn't a threat is much worse. You can already see how teams are defending both Lowry and FVV when they're not shooting well. They're shading towards the pass and daring our undersized and not-so-quick PGs to beat them to the rim. It's all about tactics and exploiting weaknesses in the playoffs, and Lowry and FVV not being a consistent scoring threat is a weakness that's already being exploited in the regular season.

Doesn't matter when your team has Kawhi and Gasol who can initiate offense just fine. Gasol can pass obviously from high post and Kawhi can do his Kawhi thing. We don't live or die by Lowry.

In that scenario, Lowry's a floor spacer and if he's not hitting his open 3's, then yes we do die.

He's floor spacer meaning if he stretches the defense, he's already doing his job in creating lanes for Kawhi, Gasol and Siakam. It's not going to go to the point where they completely leave him and help off of him.

You know who else is getting max dollars this season? Gordon Hayward.. otto porter..Carmelo Anthony...andrew Wiggins..

Also, Lowry was one of the most underpaid/bargain deals for a couple years when he was a top 10 or 15 player and was making less than half of other stars after the cap jump.

Masai knew going in that he probably wasnt going to get prime Lowry on the back end of the deal, and that's he made it a 3 year deal, which also by the way increases the annual salary in negotiations.

The guy brought us back to glory and is still an all star hes not some dog shit, I'm pretty fucking ok with the franchise giving him one max deal in his career

If he starts laying or shitting bricks then the defense will definitely sag off him until he starting hitting again.

Wtf does this have to do with anything?

My point is he needs to perform. We're trying to win the fucking title. We can't have our star PG go missing in the playoffs.
