Anyway good win for Canada over Brazil. The NBA players did step up in a big way. You can see that we need at least 3 or 4 NBA guys to win out there as this was no cake walk.Last edited by Hotshot; Thu Sep 13, 2018, 09:25 PM.

Great win and an important one. As the front page mentioned, depth is important in the FIBA qualifiers, because NBA players won't be available for many of the games. Since past wins influence future ranking, whenever the NBA players can make it, it is imperative that they do. Corey Jo, Tristan and Kelly O have been carrying their freight for years. They are not alone and kudos for all the players that show up for the camps and support their country.

However it will be difficult to win in November playing in Brazil and Venezuela without NBA talent.
Finally there will be one final game on home soil against Venezuela in Feb. and this might be a deciding game again (2015 flashbacks) pending how the team below (Dominican Republic) does.

Canada loses to Venezuela twice, plus their remaining game against Brazil and finishes with 8 wins.
Brazil and Dominican split their 2 games.
Dominican wins both their games against Venezuela.
Brazil and Venezuela win both games against VI, Dominican wins both over Chile.
In that scenario, you'd have
Venezuela: 9
Dominican: 9
Brazil: 9
Canada: 8
And even if all of that happened, Canada would still get through unless Uruguay wins 5 of their 6 games with two each against US, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, or Panama or Mexico go undefeated.

Venezuela's win over Dominican today gets us a little closer, as the complicated scenario I outlined above is off the table. Now it's impossible for both Dominican and Brazil to get to 9 wins. Two wins likely puts us through.
Virgin Islands missed their flight or connection or something and forfeited their game against Brazil today. Just another example of the stupidity of the current qualification system.
