I read this as they're going to start getting ready for the playoffs and don't want to risk anything messing with the dynamics. The Raptors are rolling.
If bringing back Carter for 10 minutes is an issue because it might mess their dynamics then they are doomed. You know who might mess their dynamics?! The other team will! Opposition coaches will be prepared to distrupt this bench unit flow irregardless and young guys with little playoffs experience tend to shit the bed more then succeed come playoffs time.

    • What does he add? They're rolling. Their bench is crazy good. They don't need him. It's a needless change. He's not bringing something they need. It's all nostalgia or the quest for a feel good story.

      • Vince Carter right now is averaging 5 pts on 38% shooting, 2 rebounds, 1 assists per game

We are talking about the playoffs and we are getting him for insurance in case our young bench crew will get caught in playoffs fever and cause our 3 pointer to plummet ( which always happens). Vince can still shoot the 3, and has a fairly high IQ and doesn't get rattle easily. Remember Vince did help Dallas a few years back in game 7 with a 3 pointer clutch shot.

Shooting 3's is a skill that doesn't deteriorate that rapidly unlike athletics. We are only asking for 8-10 minutes per game to shoot a 3, pass the ball around and defend. Vince can still do that in short bursts in an elite level, we are not asking him to carry the offence or a heavy burden.

Think of old Vince the same way Old Del Curry helped the Raptors in their playoffs, still useful.

See this is exactly why we don't want to bring Vince in. Because as soon as FVV or Wright struggle in a playoff game, there will be calls to replace them in the rotation with Vince.

Vince is not good anymore, and would lower our ceiling. Yet because of his history particularly with this franchise, his pedigree and nostalgia would lead to demands for him to play when it is irrational.

There is no real reason to believe that Vince Carter is any better than Gerald Henderson or Nando de Colo and would give us more. But he's a way sexier name and this fan base craves approval from him and the media attention that it brings so they pine after him.

                • If Wright or FVV struggle then its next man up, too bad. Frankly I think the two PG lineup is only good for certain matchups and disaster in others, so a good mix & match to throw off your opponant will be a blessing.

Its up to coach Casey to decide when or if to use Vince. Vince is not the Vince of old but he can still produce in limited minutes and his veteran leadership and experience will be an asset.

Ask this question about every buyout candidate on the market and you'll get the same answer. And yet they are clearly looking to add someone on the buyout market. So, set that logic aside, and take it as given that they want to add someone to the team, that they want some depth either alongside or behind the current bench guys, and circle back to find a different reason not to sign Vince.

The nostalgia and feel good story is great for the fans but is ultimately secondary. There are other reasons to add him.

Sure. He's not being bought out.

Or not to add him.... I have no inside information but my guess is that there is some fear that it could turn in to a circus with the stupid Toronto media and they don't really want Derozan and Lowry answering 1,000 questions about VC every day. So, you weigh that against his possible contribution which is.... what exactly? He night hit some threes? The risk/reward analysis skews against VC I think.

They can sign him to a 1-day contract when he wants to retire and he can fly in and have a big presser if he wants. Fantastic. I really couldn't care less one way or the other but I am not a big fan of adding him at this point (assuming it's even an option).
