Blake Murphy wrote a piece on Fred for Vice Sports about a week ago. Don't know if it's been posted.

Casey raves about VanVleet's errorless play, trusting him to play eight of the team's 24 "clutch" minutes this year and more fourth-quarter minutes than anyone on the team.

On defense, VanVleet's timing in help is impeccable, and few players on the roster dig into post-ups like he does. He's also high-effort at all times, and those things in concert help make up for the size disadvantage he's at most nights. The Raptors have their best defensive rating with VanVleet on the floor, he's a part of three of their four best defensive fivesomes and five of their six best defensive threesomes, and only Aron Baynes has been on the floor for fewer points per-100 possessions among qualified players.

Nice "problem" to have. FWIW ESPN's RPM has Freddy ahead of Delon. BBRefs BPM has Delon ahead. Delon's strengths are more obvious. Harder for us average fans to see some of Fred's - can't hear him quarterbacking and communicating on D.

Not to be a voice of reason but remember how much the OG thread blew up a couple of weeks ago when he strung 2 or 3 good games together? Let's see if this lasts. That's the great thing about this roster..there are so many young guys trying to prove themselves that someone is always stepping up.

Lol I still really like Delon and hope he still gets minutes and we don't give up on him too early but yes you were right, Fred looks to be better after all lol
He better be the 3rd string PG when he returns.

Maybe package him along with JV for something that can actually help this team.

And you think because Fred hit a couple 3s against a brutal defence he’s better than delon? Not a chance.

Here's Ben Falk breaking down some great crunch time gap positioning by Fred.

Hit "a couple of 3's" that's all he did huh? lmao.

I don't really need to say anything anymore lol. VV's play speaks for itself. If you still think he's a shitty player then you don't know what you're talking about and i question your basketball knowledge.

Not once did I say he was a bad player. I only ever said that Delon was better than him and he shouldn’t be closing games regularly. And those both hold true.

I'm not really sure how it's true because VV is mostly the one closing games for the Raptors and not Wright. So apparently Coach Casey agrees with me.

What's next? Casey sucks? Casey has no idea what he's doing?

Sometimes you just have to admit you're wrong. Take an L. Sit down and be humble.

Delon and VanVleet have been outplaying each other basically every other game. Great internal competition

It's not that clear. In recent close games:

Against Miami, he opted for FVV to play the first 6 minutes of the 4th and then Delon to close.
Against Brooklyn, both played almost all of the 4th and overtime, with Wright getting a breather midway through the 4th, and FVV sitting the first few minutes of OT.
Against Chicago (tied entering the 4th), Wright played all but the last minute, at which time Raptors were up 15. FVV played the first half of that quarter, and then sat until that last minute.
In the OT game against Milwaukee, FVV played all of the 4th and overtime, while Wright played just the first half of the 4th.

If you wanted to score those for Casey's trust, I'd give advantage to Wright in the Miami and Chicago games, FVV the advantage in the Milwaukee game, and a draw in the Brooklyn game. But I really don't see the point in splitting hairs to that degree. It looks to me like Casey is pretty happy trusting either of them closing close games, and is making decisions between based on matchups and game situation.

Why do many people here believe in trading JV ?

Should be in the conversation for 6th man of the year. He's the engine of that unit. And overall is the best playmaker on the team.
