    ESPN #3 http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/page...-break-week-19
"With the exception of a 3-point win over Miami last Tuesday -- a game Toronto led by 16 inside of five minutes -- the closest margin of victory on the Raptors' current seven-game winning streak is 15. The starters clock in with a net rating of 12.0, and the bench unit is swamping the league to the tune of a plus-31.1 in its 172 minutes together. When trying to glean whether a team's regular-season dominance is real, these are the kinds of numbers to make note of."

    NBA.com #2 http://www.nba.com/powerrankings#/
"DeMar DeRozan's assist rate (18.1 per 100 possessions used) is the highest of his career by wide margin, but it has dropped precipitously with each subsequent quarter, from 25.1 in the first quarter to 6.8 in the fourth. So there's still a question of if the ball can continue to move late in games, but we haven't seen much of DeRozan late in games, because the Toronto bench has been putting opponents away early. The Raptors have won seven straight games, with DeRozan and Kyle Lowry only needing to play in the fourth quarter of one of the seven (their win over Miami on Tuesday, because every Heat game is a close game). The five-man bench unit is now a plus-92 in 80 minutes over the course of the winning streak and ranks as the league's best lineup (plus-31 points per 100 possessions) of the 52 that have played at least 150 minutes together."

"Another week, three more wins and a 41-16 record at the break mean the Raps only have to go 16-9 over their final 25 games to set the franchise's single-season victory mark.

Toronto has had close calls. The Heat capitalized on some snoozy Raptors play down the stretch of Tuesday's contest, forcing a frantic finish that left head coach Dwane Casey dissatisfied...and vividly descriptive.

"I'm upset, even though we won, because I know—I know what's coming around the corner," Casey told reporters after the escape against Miami. "Like you're going down a dark alley, here comes a group of guys with a baseball bat and you say, 'oh, hey, where's the baseball game?' It's 12 o'clock at night, you know what's coming around the corner."

Still one of just two teams in the top five on offense and defense, the Raptors have a schedule that should make that 16-9 mark reachable and keep Casey content. From now until the end of the regular season, Toronto won't face a Western Conference foe on the road. Light travel like that bodes well—both for the Raptors' chances at retaining the East's top seed and for their freshness come playoff time."

ESPN still has us at third. Should have at least bumped us to 2nd over the Warriors who lost 2 games in a row last week. Too bad Stein isn't doing it anymore.. he would have given us the props.

In his podcast he talks with Kevin Arnovitz about the Raptor's fans feeling disrespected:

                  Starts at the 32-minute-mark

Interesting to hear this point of view.

I heard that somewhere too before I listened to it. Worth noting that this reasonable rant started when he and Arnovitz postulated what might happen if the Raps were the number one seed and got the "NBATv coverage" (ie the early game) for the playoffs.

Oh, fuck. If the Raps play that noon eastern game again on the first Saturday there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments not seen since the fall of Babylon.

That's cool, though I lost the respect for Sports Illustrated a long, long time ago. Legit to see it at nba.com though
Agreed. They were just the first to release. Now there are many.

                          We're number 2! (on ESPN). I think that's a first.
