  • Eastern Conference Playoff Predictor Challenge: 2018 EDITION

Rules are simple, you must choose the 8 teams you think will make the Eastern Conference playoffs, and seed them as correctly as possible.

    1. Each correct playoff team selection equals -1 (negative 1) points

    2. Zero additional points for a perfect team seeding

    3. Incorrect seedings are penalized by the value of inaccuracy (If you pick Boston to be the 4th seed and Boston ends up the 2nd seed, you are allotted 2 points. If you select the Cavaliers to be the 3 seed and they wind up in 9th, you are allotted the difference of 6 points)

    4. Lowest score wins. Just like golf; the lower the score, the better.

For a final example to recap the concept: If I choose the 76ers to end up in the 6th seed and they wind up in the 8th seed at seasons end, the scoring is as follows:

    1) -1 for correctly selecting a playoff team
    2) +2 for the inaccuracy of seeding
    = a sum of +1

Calculate the sum off all team selection scores and you have your total score.

Comment your 1-through-8 seeding of the conference below.

    I'll start things off with:

    1. Toronto Raptors
    2. Boston Celtics
    3. Washington Wizards
    4. Detroit Pistons
    5. Cleveland Cavaliers
    6. Indiana Pacers
    7. Milwaukee Bucks
    8. Philadelphia 76ers

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FEBRUARY 14TH TO BE ELIGIBLE, THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING
SPECIAL REPORT: March 27th, 2017, it is now confirmed Lebron James has had both his back and his dignity broken by the vicious swinging right elbow of ruthless heavyweight PF and notorious bad-boy David Lee

Tough to leave out Detroit.. but even with Griffin, I don't think they make it.

Bottom half of the conference is going to be a dogfight until the last night of the season,

            1. Toronto
            2. Boston
            3. Washington
            4. Milwaukee
            5. Philadelphia
            6. Miami
            7. Detroit
            8. Indiana

That's right, no Cleveland. Frankly, I think that Father Time has caught up with the Cavs - when they've been winning over the last couple of months, it hasn't been decisively (only 3 double digit wins in their 15 wins since December 1), and being beaten decisively (10 double digit losses in their 15 losses since December 1).

Plus, you often have to be 'different' than other people to win these pools

I think everybody's just getting their jollies moving Cleveland down a few slots

Cleveland's next eleven games are MIN, @ATL, @BOS, @OKC, WSH, @MEM, SA, BKN, PHI, DEN, DET. There's a distinct possibility that they only win 3 or less of those games. They then go out onto a 6-game West Coast road trip

I'm changing my prediction if they make a big splash, but if they don't trade their Nets pick (which I don't think they should/will), then I don't see how much this team is changing, at least in the regular season

I'd be shocked if they don't make a move by the trade deadline.

I think a few of us (including me) might want to reconsider rankings
