First couple of 905 games not exactly confidence-inspiring for Malachi. Last year he averaged 21 and 4 for Reno, ready to give him the benefit of the doubt.

First decent game for the 905 in a win. Reminds me a little bit of Swaggy P?

It’s just like watching the Bruno highlights again! Go Malachi.

Yeah, 0 for 7. At least he got 6 rebounds?

(i think people need to realize it's not as easy to dominate g-league as many seem to think)

31% on field goals in the g-league is not a good look so far, but nice to see him grabbing some boards (4.3 in 26 min) and steals (1.5). There's shooting ability in there somewhere, but the same could be said for Bruno (and he's a 7-footer).

I was reading somewhere that this move actually increases our tax for next year??
Puzzling move if we weren't getting in on the buyout market. Seems like plans fell apart here.

Well Bruno was expiring while Malachi is under contract, and every little bit counts when it comes to the tax and avoiding it. But I think Masai's philosophy was summed up by his statement a couple months back that if we didn't have Bruno, we'd have someone else like Bruno - ie a cheap project.

Not sure what it has to do with the buyout market though...

Nah. It's like a 70k hit to the tax calculation, barely noticeable. If we don't have Richardson, that's just one more roster spot we have to fill with a minimum salary, which he is essentially making (give or take that aforementioned 70k).

It was a zero risk move, to take a chance on a recent draft pick who may be a lot better than he looks under Sacramento's terrible player development, plus free open some room this year on the off chance that there's a vet to be grabbed on the buyout market. Even having mostly missed out there (and they could still sign a guy coming over from Europe or the D-League or anyone not currently on an NBA team), they also buy themselves some tax wiggle room on the off chance they make a Finals run.

20/5/3 and 2 steals in last outing, in only 27 minutes.

Those are the kind of shooting numbers he needs if he's ever gonna get any run on the big team. Hopefully he's starting to get comfortable and these stat lines become the new normal for him.
