Here's my takeaway from this circus:
1. Kawhi himself has no control over where plays next year, that's up to the Spurs. Anything else is noise.
2. Wherever he signs this year, he will have two choices:
(A) Start redeeming his value (which is plummeting by the week), by playing hard, as his former self, and make a real impact on whichever team he signs, and gets the best contract in free agency (this is his contract year)
(B) Destroy his career by pouting/moping around/sitting with the "injury", and risk going the route of Isaiah Thomas and Cousins or worse (Banged up fussy star with a bit of an attitude problem and locker room poison)
3. If he goes option (A) above and his team makes, say, an NBA finals, he will again have two choices:
(A) Re-sign with the team he took to the finals as the main player on that team, for a long and healthy Max deal, for a solid chance of a championship in the next coming years, as GSW and LBJ decline. (A dream scenario for 99.9% of the NBA players out there)
(B) Move to LA over hell and high water to keep his uncle happy, and either waste his prime years with the clippers, or go play second fiddle in the Lakers to Lebron (with a reality show with his uncle and Lavar Ball waiting to happen)
4. The only reason he can get away with this crap is that he's a top 5 player in the league. But even as such, he's value is incredibly deteriorated. There are no solid rumors of other team's competing offers anymore. Masai is most likely keeping that in mind.
