What was Kawhi's usage like with the Spurs? Similar to DeMars's?
Yes, very high. Higher than DeMar's. 31% the last couple years. DeMar's been between 28-30% every year of the past 5 years except 16-17 where he spiked to an ungodly 34%.

If we're just talking second best player, wouldn't that be obvious? Lowry's been the best player on the team for a half decade.
Except last year, Lowry was always the best player on the team.

Lowry was the best player on the team last year, too.

          • Following Dan's lead above I looked up the PIPM for the top ten player of the Raptors and the Warriors for last year. These are the players that are currently on their teams roster. I made no allowance for injury, sickness, need to leave the team to accept college graduation papers, watch babies be born or anything else. Simply went down the roster of existing player (ignored the Raptors current two ways and Lucas) and ranked the players. Then I totalled the numbers to arrive at a total number for the current top ten players as they exist on each team. I have no idea if it makes sense to do this (total the individual numbers) and I present them below. All mistakes are mine and Dan and Nylon Calculas are not responsible. I took Kawhi's number from 2016-2017

            Player PIPM 2017-2018
            Kawhi Leonard 6.1
            Kyle Lowry 3.6
            Fred VanVleet 2.2
            Jonas Valanciunas 1.9
            OG Anunoby 0.5
            Delon Wright 0.4
            Pascal Siakam 0.3
            Danny Green 0.1
            CJ Miles 0
            Norman Powell -3.7
            Total 15.1

            Stephen Curry 7.0
            Kevin Durrant 4.1
            Draymond Green 2.5
            Klay Thompson 1.7
            Demarccus Cousins 1.5
            Jordan Bell 0.4
            Damion Lee 0.3
            Andre Iguodala 0.0
            Jonas Jerebko -0.6
            Kevon Looney -0.7
            Total 16.2

Make of it what you will. I am encouraged because I think the Raptors roster has more room for improvement than the Warriors who are stacked with guys in their prime. The Raptors have five guys who are in their second or third year. And Norm was atrocious. Hard to imagine something not happening to improve things on that front.

            • I guess we just need to bench Norm and we're winning the championship this year

If only. I don't know if the total numbers mean anything, but I thought it was interesting. The ranking shown in the charts is close to what I thought, but I had JV ranked ahead of Fred. I was surprised at C.J.'s number. Basically even.

That's the one I used to find the PIPM numbers for the Raptors and Warriors on the last page. Clunky but not too complicated.

Also, Shaun Livingston, where would he be on that list? Was he worse than looney?

Good to see in light of his quotes with the Nick Nurse interview. As good as it was, I don't know if I like the sound of the "how would you get ME the ball?" questions. Then again, I guess that's what being the main option is and you want someone to want the ball. Nice to see he was able to be that dominant in San Antonio with the strong cast he had around him.

                              Yes. Shaun was -5.something.

                              • Would be interesting to see the Celtics top 10 as well.

For the Warriors being in the finals 4 times in a row pays a toll. The regular season is a grind and guys go through the motion. They are still stacked and will always be heavy favorites to win it all but I could see them having an off year (well at least in the regular season).
