Default Should we trade kawhi at the deadline?

This doesn’t look like a title contender. Barely playing above .500 the last 30 games. It might be wise to play the lakers and clippers against each other and get whatever assets we can get for him. Should explore moving Lowry and ibaka as well.

yeah no. What kind of franchise folds because they are only 2nd seed? You live with this current roster.

Can you imagine the phone call?

Masai: We are exploring packages for Kawhi?
Lawrence Frank/Magic: Why? you're on top of the East?
Masai: Well we're doing our due diligence.
Lawrence Frank/Magic: He's not resigning with you isn't he?
    Masai: ...
    Lawrence Frank/Magic: yeah we're good.

The team should not trade Kawhi if they feel they are not a title contender.

They should trade him if they feel certain he is not re-signing. But given that we seem to be buyers, not sellers, I am guessing they feel we have a decent chance at re-signing him. We still can offer the most guaranteed money and that is not nothing.

Acquiring Kawhi was never about him re-signing. It was about going all-in for the championship this year. In fact, if we win the championship and he leaves, then I'm satisfied that we maxed out the potential of the Lowry/Derozan core. Re-signing is a cherry on top, assuming getting to the finals is enough to make Kawhi come back for basketball reasons. If we don't make the finals and Kawhi leaves, then we started the rebuild a year earlier with massive capspace freeing up in 2020 without the awkwardness of having DeMar and his salary still around.

Wake me up when the playoffs begin. Regular season doesn't matter - just look at the last 5 years.

Hell no. You don't sign Kawhi Leonard for regular season, you see it through till the end.

    trade him for AD

Toronto has played very well without Kawhi in the lineup, trade the guy for AD, and then you have that same squad, the one that kills without Kawhi, but now with the Best youong big in the NBA.

    roll out:

    Fat Kyle
    Danny G
    Pascal the Rascale
    AD
    The chef

    Fucking deadly.

You guys can keep laughing, but if we don't acquire a second star (we have 1 star on this team right now, not 2 like some seem to think) we have no chance of advancing to the finals or winning the title.

Barring that I'd engage the Clippers in trade talks. Kawhi for Gallinari, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a 1st round pick. We can still compete for the rest of the season and get knocked out in the playoffs like we're going to anyway. Then we can move Gallinari, Lowry and Ibaka's expirings in the summer potentially for picks and young assets.
