Mostly the latter. Patterson is our 3rd most important player because our power forward depth falls off a cliff after him. (Before getting ibaka)

It also goes to show the skills gaps in the other 4 guys he plays with. His impact would be less pronunounced if the team had a Shane Battier, Marc Gasol, Boris Diaw, or whoever - other guys with a combination of range/mobility/great court vision and an ability to move the ball. Tbh the Raptors have a lot of players with tunnel vision who don't see the whole floor really well. If Patterson's not playing, nobody replaces his impact.

That will change with Ibaka.
