Buycks clips
Buycks went undrafted out of Marquette in 2011 and played in the D-League for Tulsa in 2011-12. He had an eight-day trial with the Suns in December 2011 but never played. In Tulsa, he averaged 15.1 points and 2.6 assists per game in 2011-12. Then Buycks went to Europe and was MVP of a French league."I feel like I've been working real hard to try and get there," Buycks said. "I just haven't stopped yet. I've been working and working. I feel like the time is coming, but I just have to keep working until then."
"It was a learning process for me, coming from junior college," Buycks said. "I was an All-American, scoring this, scoring that, and coming there I had to take a role as a point guard. I had to distribute the ball and get other guys involved. I had NBA guys on the team in Jimmy Butler, Lazar Hayward, Darius Johnson-Odom, Jae Crowder, we had a lot of good players I was surrounded by. To be the point guard there was a good thing for me."
"That was definitely a big accomplishment for me," Buycks said. "I was excited. I was happy for myself, just the hard work trying to prove everybody wrong that had doubts. I just try to let nothing stop me from getting to my dream, which is getting to the NBA."

Someone like Price is a known quantity. He's not someone you get excited about; he's a space-filler, an end-of-the-bench guy, someone you can throw on the court for five minutes and keep the game from collapsing while your starter gets his rest. You can get that basically anywhere. Price was coming off a unmemorable but inoffensive season with Washington that, while not really indicative of his ceiling since the team was an injury wasteland while he was starting, demonstrated that he's not a guy who's going to give you much more than the minimum acceptable performance from a backup PG. Except, because he started competently for a lot of last season, he most likely would have cost twice as much as going the prospect route - he's in the Alan Anderson area of "can and probably will end up getting $1.5 million from somebody." Which would be a waste of money.
AJ Price would be a perfectly acceptable signing if this were a team that was guaranteed to make playoffs and needed a "safe" second or third backup at PG. But the Raptors aren't that team; we're a fringe playoff team at best, with every expert saying our range is the 7-10 seeds (and those who disagree tend to put us lower). We're gonna know within the first thirty games if this is a potential playoff team or not, and probably within the first twenty, and AJ Price versus Any Point Guard Project isn't going to make the difference because Kyle is the starting PG, and if Kyle goes down to injury this isn't a playoff team because AJ Price isn't good enough to run offense for a playoff team as a starting PG.
It simply makes more sense to use the roster space to invest in a potential prospect and get an asset. If it pans out, great. And if it doesn't, you can release them and sign somebody else - another project, or one of the AJ Prices of the basketball world. Because there's always a few of those lying around.
So again. You constantly come off as a dick. Someone needs to smack you upside the head.

I didn't have anybody specific in mind because like most people I don't follow summer league that closely and only keep track of prospects I like (I like Kabongo, but he's probably D-League bound and rightly so).

And who's to say Price isn't an asset? He could have great value for a playoff team looking for a backup PG at the trade deadline, if, say, Ujiri wants to get another 2nd rd pick for some draft, or maybe a young end-of-bencher he likes off someone's roster.
You just seem to have a stubborn, limited opinion. And you enjoy belittling people who differ on that. Congratulations, you're officially being a little prick on a forum where no one can kick your teeth in for doing so.
*And again, I have no problem with this kind of signing. I was just picking Price from a list of free agents. Which was a horrible list. So I don't see what your problem was and why you had to attack my opinion. Just being a dick.

Most likely one of Stone or Buycks pan out to be capable backup PGs, and then you have an asset. Better that than signing some "veteran" PG for a couple million whose sterling quality is "won't fuck up too often."

Everything Matters
CalgaryRapsFan is right. We're all Raptors fans. If you disagree with something then that's fine but let's be respectful not only to the original poster but also to others who come here to read what you have to say.
You'd be surprised how many people care what you have to say; how many people read what you're saying. Being disrespectful hurts the credibility of your message.

I think this was another log for the tanking though.
What about Jordan Taylor?

You post a lot. You always sound like a dick.
What about Price is bad? He did a solid job last year in actual NBA games. Yes he had a low FG %, but he shot the 3 well enough, ran the offense well, played decent D, and had very low turnovers.
Also we already have signed a project in Stone. So I thought maybe the team would want some sort of security for if/when Lowry struggles with injuries. It's nice to have someone with at least some NBA experience.
I don't mind another project at all, but there was never any way I could have objectively chosen someone like Buycks. That would have required information on a very unknown player. And that is usually the case with these type of young project signings, just as it was with Stone. So Price was my 1A, and Udrih my 1B, from a list of pretty unspectacular PG free agents.
So again. You constantly come off as a dick. Someone needs to smack you upside the head.
