I think we should do everything it takes to fulfill Wiggins' dream. Hopefully he pulls a reverse Steve Francis on whichever team drafts him, cuz it's probably not going to be us.
Wouldn't that be the most awesomest thing? He gets drafted and then goes "WTF? I ain't playing in the USA!"Last edited by ebrian; Thu Jul 18, 2013, 10:55 PM.your pal,

The media would have a field day if he actually refused to play for any other team. Methinks he'd lose a bunch of American fans as well.Twitter - @thekid_it

tkfu wrote: View PostNope. There are 4 ways to become a Rookie Free Agent (which is a different thing that being an Unrestricted Free Agent, but close enough).
- Be 26 or older
- Declare for the draft and don't get drafted
- Declare for the draft, get drafted, team that drafted you renounces their rights to you
- Declare for the draft, refuse to sign a contract with the team that drafted you. You then may enter the following year's draft, as long as you do not play professional or college basketball in any capacity anywhere in the world for an entire year. (If you do play basketball professionally, even an exhibition game in the Phillipines or something, the team that drafted you retains your rights.) The following year, you can again refuse to sign a contract with the (new) team that drafts you, spend another year not playing any pro or college ball, and then for the following season you'll be a Rookie Free Agent. Needless to say, nobody does this.

What he says in any interview right now is out the door when he steps into the NBA spotlight. When ever he does become eligible to hit the free agent market he will have a completely different perspective on what he wants.Don't follow me. @AngryRaptorsFan

AngryRapsFan wrote: View PostThis is one of THE most sensible posts in this entire topic. He was asked one casual question and he responded by naming his hometown team and the team he grew up cheering for. People are analyzing his response way too much. Wiggins's mindset now will be WAY different than his mindset when/if he does become a FA. What if the team he does get drafted too has a stellar supporting cast? What if they are a contender and Toronto isn't? (At the hypothetical time when he is a FA) Point being, we should be appreciative for the fact that the hometown boy wants to play for the team and revisit this in the future if it happens. All these scenarios of him forcing teams to let him play in Toronto are just crazy.
