Rondo was always expendable. Boston is rebuilding. They'd probably lose him in free agency next summer if they keep him that long. They could keep him this year (until trade deadline) to take pressure off Smart, but they've been shopping Rondo since last year, so this pick doesn't really change their outlook at all.
