But there's a catch! There's a clause in the CBA saying that you can't cut a player if he's injured (more or less*). So if this injury keeps him out until after the start of the season, it could be a decent payday for him.
* The actual nature of the clause is that contracts that we commonly refer to as "unguaranteed" are technically "unguaranteed against lack of skill". When you waive a guy on that type of contract and don't want to pay him, you say he was waived because of lack of skill. BUT, if he's injured, you're not allowed to claim you're waiving him for lack of skill. And all NBA contracts are guaranteed against injury--if a guy gets hurt while playing for you, you've got to at least keep playing him until he heals up.
