10x? get real. we're talking a kids ROOKIE year vs derozan basically entering his prime years. still dont get why everyone is so up in arms about this list. derozans shoddy career UP until this past breakout season was mediocre at best. when you PROJECT for the future you have to take into consideration their history. obviously they have limited data on oladipo but his rookie season was pretty damn good so you have to assume he'll get better.

derozan right now is defying the odds and maybe he'll make another leap, but his past performance doesn't help him with these projections. dont know how that is so hard to understand.
But they aren't projecting for the future... It's a list of who they believe are the top shooting guards right now

They are projecting for this coming season, which is in the future, unless I've been paying far too little attention.

Right now vs in 2 months? Now you're just arguing for the sake of it. Rational be damned!

I heard Amir was ranked 10th.. glad to see he got some recognition at least. Although the rankings are based on an advanced stat and Amir is the advanced stat all-star - so him not making it would be more upsetting in my opinion than DeMar not making the SG list.

Not in 2 months. Their total production over the 6 months following 2 months from now.

Groan. Is this for real? Let's split hairs to the Nth degree.

Keep in mind, the data pool is using data that is no longer active (past seasons) so unless the formula has some August YMCA league participant bonus, then right now is, statistically speaking, the exact same thing as 2 months from now and is built to factor in for the duration of the full season.

Yes, but the point is, if you expect a 2nd year player to be better at the end of the year than at the beginning, but a 6th year player to be the same at the beginning and end of the season, then their rankings now and their rankings for the entire season might be different.

Splitting hairs? It's just defining what the projections are accurately. It is who will have the better 2014-15 season - and that, quite frankly, will not be determined in 2 months' time.

no one is arguing when the season STARTS. that literally has nothing to do with anything.

                            nevermind...

Then what are you arguing, cause it seems you don't have much of a point. You are acting like this is some nostradamus-esque prediction but really it is this season's forecast using a data field that exists in its entirety today. So regardless of the duration of the season, all the data is currently available, and isn't future relevant (the data).

Yeah, but player improvement projections are different for sophomores and for veterans. And the data used to generate these projections is based on entire seasons - how a player performs in their entire 3rd year versus their entire 2nd year, and how players tend to perform in their entire 6th year versus their entire 5th. So it is entirely relevant to state that it is the full season performance that is being projected, and entirely reasonable to assume that the entire season will tell a different story than the players' talent level on the first day of the season.
