Daddy with the “I told you so”. Lol. He was right. Maybe we need to get him on the coaching staff.

During the past fews games it always cracks me up when Devlin talks about how Nurse arrived at this genius plan: Actually give consistent minutes to players outside his favourites, so guys can actually play through their mistakes, and gain confidence and rhythm.

Seems to be working a bit better than playing 14 guys each game and have each one audition for 2 minutes here and there with a gun in their head. That approach usually leads to guys either forcing their games and making poor decisions (e.g Davis and Stanley earlier on) OR playing too timid and hiding so you're not yanked at the first blown coverage/poor shoot (eg Thomas and Flynn/Watson earlier on).

Giving guys a natural flow of minutes will be conducive to a more natural and confident game. Who knew. It's like they discovered plutonium on the moon or something. If there's one positive out if the injuries/covid/lost players is that it all thinned the roster enough to force Nurse to actually rely more heavily on players outside his circle of favourites (i.e the ones not from his championship run)

Casey used to go whole seasons without the end of the bench getting a sniff. It's not like Nurse is alone in the NBA in playing guys who have got it done for them lol

It's not about that, there's always going to be guys at the end of the bench (your 12th, 13th man etc) that will not get minutes unless there are injuries, that's the case for every team. It's about how you audition guys to decide their place/role in the rotation and assess their true game and value as assets.

What's the best way to decide who's gonna be your 6th man vs your 12th man? Do we try to play all of them together, quickly and in shor-spurts with quick hooks on a fend-for-yourself at the beginning of the season OR do we have them each get a chunk of games with defined, consistent minutes/roles (sharing the floor with starter caliber players) so they can really get a rhythm/confidence?

The latter way is better and will yield a more realistic picture of who the player really is. If McCaw gets lots of consistent minutes with starters and that's his game, then that's who he is, and we know. If Flynn always plays just 5 minutes here and and there and in garbage time sharing the court primarily with Johnson and baynes, then it's hard to tell who Flynn really is and to develop him.

It's about the the proverbial "let the game come to you". You can't "let the game come to you" (and therefore give your best performance) playing with a gun to your head trying to make something happen in 3 minute spurts often with other players in the same situation. That's not conducive to a natural game. Now, once you gave 4 or 5 games with this more controlled/consistent audition, then you can tell who earned a rotation spot, and yeah, someone it's gonna be your 12th man and not play - but at least you accurately know what you have on that guy.

I actually see him as more of a scorer like Stef than a pure point guard like CP3.

Yup he has the nice in between game which is the difference between a mediocre PG and an above average one. His fadeaway from 10-15 feet looks a lot like CP3's.

                        • Took all year and a lot of injuries for him to get some regular run, being behind KL and FVV will do that I guess. But now that he's comfortable he's looking good. Should come off the bench sooner and get more minutes next year. Very nice all around player. Moving forward, should be part of the younger new core with GTJ and OG. Nice to see some roster depth under 25.
