Can we stop blaming DD now for taking away Ross/JV's opportunity?

JV just needs to stop acting like a pussy, and dominate some people.

Points, rebounds, blocks, efficiency and trust will come when he does.

jesus...everything has to go right for this guy to contribute. Stars must align. More minutes. More touches. More PNR. More Post ups. Perimeter defense have to defend better. Guys need to pass it to him more. Casey needs to inspire confidence in him. Players need to have more confidence in him. He needs to score so that he works harder on D. Refs gotta give him respect. Maybe this is true. Still he's starting to annoy me.

          I feel your frustration.

However everything you just described is called good team basketball and good coaching.

We're not talking about a guy who has shown to be useless despite the posts throughout this thread. Among guys who actually play he is among top players in TS%, rebounding, shot blocking, PER, WS, WS/48, ORtg, DRtg.

The more touches, PnRs, and post ups is not just limited to JV - a point many continue to miss or ignore.

            But here's the thing:

Sort his stats on a Per48 basis

            http://stats.nba.com/leaders/#!?Stat...&PerMode=Per48

and the points, blocks, rebounds and efficiency are all there. He's up there with all the best centres in the league.

For all bigs averaging 20+ points/48, the minimum FGA/48 is about 17. The average is closer to 20. He gets 14.

                Playing time
                Touches
High % Touches - no point giving him the ball in bad spot
Team Defence - especially helpful for a rim protector

                Coaching
                Team work

That is basically what every player and every team needs.

So now you guys except Casey to change his offense when his on a west coast trip. With less practise time. You guys are ridiculous. Yeah, guys its that easy.

Our guards get beat off the dribble by everyone and then Jonas and Amir have to help which then lead to dump offs because nobody rotates.... But let's blame Jonas
JV has been our best rim protector by far too.

None of the 'silver linings' of derozans injury have come to pass because the assumption was Casey would adapt but he hasn't.....like at all. JV and TR are still doing the same things on the court that would be done if DD was playing - little more, little less.

                    It really is a shame.

                    ****************************************

I find this thread funny. Ross and JV (and Vasquez and Patterson and Lou and Hansborough) all struggle in a game versus the Cavs and a thread is started by the DoD stating that it is obvious that Ross and JV need DD to be good players and that DD is the raptor jesus.

Thing is Ross and JV have not been put in any different of a situation...so nothing has changed, and statistically they are both doing really well this season and should be seeing a bigger piece of the pie.

                          Agreed.

Out of horns, put JV in the high post option. Teams are doubling off JV (cuz they know he isn't going to get the touch), throw the pass to him at the FT line, defense will be rotating and he can hit the opposite cutter or drive it. Nothing new.

Also, Lowry needs to stop passing it to JV at waist height, dude is 7 feet tall and is great at catching the ball above his head on the move and finishing (as is Amir)...throw it up there...easy for the big man to fumble it down there (old coaches saying - when a player can't catch a pass, it is the passers fault)

I don't think the Mark Jackson - Dwayne Casey comparison is a good one. Mark Jackson's team underachieved last year with talent that was good enough to be a championship contender. The Raptors are overachieving if anything.

The defense is average not because of Casey's schemes, but because there are no plus players on defense right now. JV, Ross, even Lowry are average defenders at best, and Amir's been hobbling. James Johnson has been great defensively, but Lou Williams and Vazquez don't have much talent either.

You can't be a great defensive team with average defensive players, no matter how good your scheme is. And complaining about the offense is stupid right now. They have the second best offense in the entire NBA.
That is a normal collar. Move on, find a new slant.

Expectation is that we would run some of our lesser used sets, or lesser used options within our main sets. Expectation is that we would move players around within those main sets and make minor adjustments.

Tweaking a play isn't that hard when you are dealing with professional players (on a professional schedule - 24 hour access) and, most importantly, we have the same team from last year almost throughout. Chemistry and continuity means that this group of players should be more adaptable within the sets since they all know them so thoroughly.

Or shoot the 15 footer. He is a good FT shooter and he hit a nice ~19 footer last night. He can spot up in that situation as well.

I can't remember who recently made the comment about Lowry's passing the other day, and that all his passes seem to be low, but it was bang on and something I didn't realize until they made the comment. A lot of tough catches for the bigs.
