Yea, it's tough because you can't offer a player option in the third year (only in the 4th).

You could incentivize it by guaranteeing a small portion of the second and third years even if he's waived. And also make the full guarantee date next summer for both years, so there's less uncertainty at least.

Getting Amir to agree will be the tough part.

Doubt Amir would give up a guaranteed $12mm for a fraction of that. Extending the contract isn't in his favor unless he's guaranteed close to the $12mm his option is worth. Especially considering his bum ankles.

There's a good breakdown of the Celts' capspace position on he Celts subreddit, it doesn't sound like they feel any urgency to do a S&T. Would love to steal away Olynyk somehow but I don't see it happening.

If I'm Amir I'm doing what's right for me and sacrificing my flexibility for a very minor amount of guaranteed money wouldn't be worth it. I would need those last two years back loaded; I'd say 'give me more money because I will get it on the market then'.

Year 2 is already unguaranteed so, as you said, in the ballpark of $12m shouldn't be too hard of an arm twist
