Windhorst says a lot of people in the NBA think Kawhi is a goner after this season.
This was the case about Paul George last year. Thinking and knowing are different. I'm not sure what the odds are but I think they go up a lot if the Raptors are successful.

Somehow these guys know all about his life when the dude was an urban legend for over a year, yeah right.

Dont forget these are the guys who said right after PG signed in OKC that he made his mind up midseason, didnt stop them from beated that LA narrative to death.

Not saying he’ll stay, but those guys definitely don’t know anything.

                • Only thing I could think of is Kawhi's agent and his uncle are having talks with the L.A. teams.

Windhorst never said that. He's always saying that Kawhi is impossible to get a read on. That's why his opinion is a bit more trusted than say, Cris Carter.

Carter is awful man. I remember when we traded for Kawhi and Carter had Stu Jackson on first things first to chat. Basically, Stu was going on about how it was a terrible move for the Raptors organization. Both Stu and Cris both went on to say how they should have just played DeMar because Lebron was out of the East now... yet they also said even with Kawhi they're still behind the Celtics. Dont think you need to be a friggin genius to see the faulty logic in that.

Cris Carter said he was talking to Kawhi's camp immediately after the trade and he wasn't likely to even show up. You must take this all with a grain of salt. How does one define "Kawhi's camp", where does it end? Is it Kawhi's aunt's friend's dentist's cousin?

                          • When reading what the US-based press writes, you need to remember two things:

                            * The US-based press is writing in the absence of reliable information on what Kawhi will do (because nobody has that right now), and therefore is reduced to writing informed speculation. Because there is no actual news to present, the US-based press is incentivized to write the informed speculation which is the most interesting to its readers, and that will in general be Kawhi leaving.

                            * The only visible action in regards to Kawhi is the Clippers basically doing everything they can short of actual tampering to recruit Kawhi, *and* telling everyone that they are confident they will bring Kawhi in during free agency. This means all of the reportable information is about the Clippers' recruitment of Kawhi, and all of the information from "sources" (which will be Clippers sources) will suggest that he's leaving.

The bottom line is that the US-based press's speculation is no more informed than ours is - it's just more widespread. (Interestingly, the Canada-based press has generally resisted the temptation to speculate on this; kudos to them.)

My personal opinion in regards to the Clippers is that their efforts to woo Kawhi would be effective for a Durant or even a Lebron, but they don't understand Kawhi well enough to really woo Kawhi effectively, and that it's too late for them to compensate for at least some of those shortcomings in their plan, but my opinion on this is every bit as much speculation as Stephen A's would be.

Cris Carter said this.... 1 day before the Kawhi trade:

We're now in mid-July and Kawhi Leonard is still a San Antonio Spur. Many expected him to be traded by now, but it hasn't happened.

There aren't many teams that will be able to make a Kawhi trade work at this point, but the Toronto Raptors appear to be one of them. They have a veteran star in DeMar DeRozan who could go to San Antonio in return, plus they have cap space and some young pieces to put around Leonard, even if it is only for a year before he becomes a free agent.

However, FS1's Cris Carter is adamant that Leonard will not go North of the border. He's close to Kawhi, and said this morning on First Things First that it won't happen.

I'll let you know; he's not going to Toronto, Carter said. I have warned people.
In defense of Cris Carter, he also did not predict that Kawhi would eat beef penis on MaFuzzy's cooking show..... and then tell Serge that he had a great time.
