The regular physical scans did not unveil the issue until it really started to bother him. Only the specialists were able to identify what it was. By then it was too late.

The Fields elbow issue/injury is a unique one.
Most physicals are not running specific tests on individual joints or nerves. It was not something he had a history with. It was not something that was noticed until 5 months after the signing when his hand became the mandible claw.
With that said, Fields is a useful player when healthy but his contract and rush to sign had more to do with Captain Canada than anything else.

He was sent to a specialist more for exploratory/diagnostic measures rather than a specific issue. It was a specialist that uncovered the problem and performed the surgery.
Hopefully he is rehabbing hard this summer and shooting 1000 corner threes a day.

Andrea Bargnani, PF, Toronto: The Raptors aren't against bringing him back, but they'd sure be OK with trading him, too. A change of scenery might serve him well. Possible landing spots: Dallas, Charlotte, Phoenix.
