Someone posted this in the offseason thread, but some perspective for those who think DeMar making 25M a year is insane. The money in 2017 gets even crazier
He'd be making like 60% of what the 2017 max guys are going to be getting if we can sign him to a flat 25M per year deal.

Well, guys, hold up. Yes, Durant will be able to make that much. But that's not what DeRozan's group will potentially be making. They would be another 5M less than that per year or so. Durant is in that sweet spot where he is hitting 10 years service at the same time as the cap peaks (artificially).
So typical max guys (not rookie max, not supermax like Durant, guys with 6-9 years experience) will be looking at about 33-35M per year on average. While DeMar's contract this summer will work out to 28M (if he signs with another team) or 30M (if he signs with us) per year. So, yes, less, but let's not compare apples and oranges. It's a 5M difference, not 25M versus 45M.

Pretty sure a player wouldnt want to be told we love you so much this is your home sign for less then trade him to Minnesota or wherever.
Jk.
