KD wants to win now. He doesn't care about lotto picks in a weak draft. A lot of the money will be used to bring KD in.
If all cap space is blown to bring a player in as a free agent, wouldn't the idea of being able to add 4 1st round picks (including a potential high lottery pick in the same offseason you're signing) be a great way of ensuring that the team continues to improve, despite not having cap space to contend for free agents?

It's certainly not a primary reason for signing, but it could very well be another solid selling point in the overall story that ownership/management would build for the superstar they're trying to lure.

    • Guys I think we need to keep in mind that there will actually be competition for Durant.

This is a scary proposition but just one example:

      Golden State Warriors:
      Klay: $16,663,575
      Draymond: $15,330,435
      Curry: $12,112,359
      Bogut: $12,681,081
      Iguodala: $11,131,368
      Total: $67,918,818

Those are their guaranteed contracts for 2016-17. Now obviously they have Barnes to think about, but they could conceivably deal Iguodala (who would be an expiring and relatively simple to trade) and have more than enough room to max Durant.

      Curry
      Klay
      KD
      Green
      Bogut

      .... Yikes.

EDIT: I forgot Kevin Looney, 1.8M deal, still possible though.

I just don't see why KD would play here without DD. OKC team would be a better than this team w/ out Dd.

        K low < Westbrook
        Ross < Anyone
        2pat < Ibaka
        Jonas = Kanter
KD and Demar play the same position. Unless he want another year of my turn, your turn offense with Demar instead of Westbrook

          Yup. My thoughts exactly.

The very beginning of the new era of player self-determination.

And no "tampering" charges there, right? Just some guys talking ... at an all-star game. Go figure.

When it comes to the better players in the league, now, you work with them ... or you work without them. If you can't already see the signs of Masai working with them ... maybe look into some beach-front property next to "Dinosaur Don" Cherry. Or Phil Jackson. Or Donald Sterling.

Look at San Antonio. Now look at the Suns. Now look at us. They're all basically working with the same big pile of TV money.
DeMar appears to be a part of this Boy's Club or whatever you want to call it as a result of his all-star status, team USA involvement and personal relationships with star players. Obviously he's not Dwyane Wade, but I feel like that could be valuable when it comes to recruiting players.

Whether they are listed as SG or PF or whatever they have the ball and are asked to create. Off-ball KD shoots but that because DD can't. They are the same position offensively.

Is KD the type of star player that needs to play with other star players to win.. or does he think he can win no matter where he goes or who he plays with?

If it's the former then we have no shot.. if it's the latter, then it shouldn't matter if DD is here or not.
If Lebron cant win on his own no one can.

Same role maybe, not position. But DD's role would change under a good coach if KD was brought in. Hopefully to something that allows him to be even more effective than he is now.

The only effect position has then is defense. If KD is carrying the heavy offensive burden its better to replace Demar with a better defender shooter

Idk the team that just won the title just got away with starting two roughly average defenders on the wings, who were nowhere near as potent offensively as DD-KD would be.

Which is why a 3&D player would fit beside KD so much better. It's not a slight against DeRozan, but rather the simple observation that his greatest assets (regardless of the efficiency) would become redundant with KD on the roster, while a lockdown defensive / 3pt shooting wing would be needed, from a fit and overall team composition perspective.

AI has long been considered one of the top defensive wings in the league, and the series really shifted when he got more playing time. Green is also considered an above-average defensive wing, capable of guarding multiple positions.

                            Yes to the money,

And it is pretty early in the year to declare the draft weak.

It's whether a system can handle multiple scoring options. The OKC system wasn't 2 options just two number 1 options taking turns. DD and KD would do the same thing. Having KD spacing the floor for Demar is just wrong

Defensively Westbrook is a really great defender. KD is a great wing defender and passable in the post.
