In addition this was a quarterfinal game so you could see JV had jitters in the start of the game, missed 2 freethrows in a row, a couple looks that he usualy makes, but then he got his confidence back and played well for the rest of the game. Rytas is a whole different team with Valanciunas on the floor, his pick and rolls free up the shooters on ofence and him being a good help defender and a rebounder it gets alot more dificult for oponents to score points

Yeah the offence is very up and down, you saw on several occasions the shot clock expiring, and the pg jacks up a difficult shot, if Rytas would utilize Valanciunas much improved post game more he could create a better three point shot for teammates, get a foul or have a much better chance of hitting a shot near the rim than the pg taking a difficult step back jumper. But this is on the coachs shoulders, I dont see him making an adjustment this late in the season and he proved time and time agian this season that he's far from an offensive mastermind...

Nice article on Jonas on the Eurocup website. I especially like this line from his recent play in the Eurocup: "And when the games got tougher, so did Valanciunas as he raised his production in every major category in the Last 16."

Lietuvos Rytas (Lithuania) is currently playing Ventspils (Latvia) in BBL (Baltic Basketball League) quarter-finals. Unfortunately, Valanciunas got some quick fouls which slowed him down considerably. In the end of 3rd quarter he has 11pts and 3reb in total of 17 minutes played, going into 4th quarter with 1 foul remaining.Last edited by omgsomuchpotential; Fri Mar 23, 2012, 02:43 PM.

VILNIUS, Lithuania – Lietuvos Rytas have drawn first blood against Ventspils with Renaldas Seibutis scoring 19 points in his team's 99-79 win.

After a tight opening quarter last year's bronze medallists put the game beyond doubt in the second frame as they went on a 12-2 run into the half to give them an unassailable 13-point lead.
Going eight-for-11 from the field, Seibutis was the main destroyer for Lietuvos Rytas whilst Jonas Valanciunas chipped in with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.
When Todd Abernethy sunk a three-pointer with less than four minutes gone, Ventspils had their hosts on the ropes with an early five-point buffer before another three, this time to Jahmar Young, extended the lead out to six points with just over three to play in the opening frame.
But with Mindaugas Katelynas adding a pair of jump shots in the last minute, it was Lietuvos Rytas leading by two when opening quarter came to a close.
For Ventspils Abernethy ended with 13 points whilst Young picked up 10. Katelynas chipped in with 16 off the bench for the hosts.
Ventspils continued to keep the game close through the opening stages of the second frame but with just over two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the half, Lietuvos Rytas cut loose as Edwards Roberts began and ended a 12-2 run with lay-ups, opening up what had been a close game.
With three three-pointers in the third quarter, Seibutis then put the game beyond doubt before Tyrese Rice added another three-pointer a second out from the buzzer to take the lead past 20 points.
Rice finished with 13 points on three-for-five shooting off the bench.
Ventspils enjoyed some better luck on offense in the final quarter but the damage had already been inflicted as the deficit could only be cut by a solitary point.
Game 2 is set to take place in Ventspils on April 2.

Any chance the raps brass saw a stretch of knicks/bulls/knicks/bulls/magic/nuggets/heat on the schedule and thought, hey wouldn't that be a good time to throw the fans a bone with the JV show? That works for me.

A crucial second game against "Donetsk" starts in 15mins. It's best of two system, so if "Lietuvos Rytas" doesn't lose by more than 10 they're automatically in semi-finals of Eurocup!
Valanciunas is going to play big minutes today.
