As long as years don't exceed 40 after trade complete you can take as many as you want.
Once you hit 40 years have to match or work with someone with less taking more.
When you hit 40 you can add/drop players but it is for just 1 year and you can't resign them in offseason.

Team Axel is pleased to announce the long term signing of the newest "$200 Man", C.J. McCollum to a 4 year deal. The 3rd year guard out of Lehigh put the league on notice in last year's NBA playoffs, as he scored 33 points (including going 7 of 11 from deep) against Memphis and has built on that momentum with a strong pre-season on a Trailblazers team with little scoring options (7th best PPG in NBA, ranked between Paul George and Kevin Durant).
In amidst of trade rumours for the combo guard, team Axel assured season ticket holders that the team wouldn't let rumours be a distraction. McCollum joins the nucleus of Love, Melo, Aldridge, Korver and Holiday as top 100 ranked players going into the season.

Continuing with the philosophy of adding young high quality/character players, team WJF would like to announce the signings of Cory Joseph (5 years) and Alex Len (4 years) to the core. Joseph is in for a bump in minutes with his move to Toronto, said the GM of team WJF " We feel Joseph will be playing around 25 minutes a night as the primary back-up to Lowry, and playing along side him to close out games. He shoots a great great percentage as a guard and will provide solid stats across the board." Alex Len adds another young shot-blocker to the team to pair with Nerlens Noel. While team WJF does not expect huge increases in numbers this year, the learning that will be done under Tyson Chandler will more than pay of in the long term.
Team WJF would also like to welcome both Patty Mills and Marcus Morris to the team on 1 year deals. Mills will provide some depth at PG this year and Morris has the chance to make Ilyasova expendable if he reaches his potential.Twitter @WJ_FINDLAY

Just wanted to share this from SI's 70 reasons to watch this season:
"57. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are ready to chuck. Last year, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined to average 33.7 shots per game, tops among all backcourts. This year, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum will be gunning for the Splash Brothers’ spot now that LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum and Robin Lopez all went their separate ways over the summer.
During the preseason, Lillard and McCollum combined to launch 36.9 shots per game, with Lillard leading the league in attempts and McCollum ranking third overall. Both players are electric and a bit unpredictable; their brute force approach should keep the Blazers interesting and potent, even if Portland winds up taking a step back in the standings."Heir, Prince of Cambridge
