A "keeper tag" allows you to mark a specific player on your team to carry over to next season. For every keeper tag you choose to use you forfeit a draft pick.
You can keep any number of offensive or defensive players. You could keep five defensive guys and no offensive guys if you chose to do so.
With every offensive player kept a draft pick is deducted starting with the 1st round pick.
With every defensive player kept a draft pick is deducted starting with the 8th round pick (A00715890 set the precedent by selecting Patrick Willis in round 8. Many more followed in round 9 so round 8 sounds fair). Let's use my team as an example. Let's pretend my keepers were:
Hines Ward, Derrick Ward, Jason Snelling, Julius Peppers and Patrick Willis.
That's three offensive keepers and two defensive keepers. That means I'd lose picks in rounds 1-3 and 8-9.
You may conduct trades in the off-season on this board but only keepers can be traded as all other players will be released to the draft. Because of this before a trade can be made you must finalize your keepers.
A trade won't go through in the off-season unless a majority votes for or against the trade. Trades can be discussed through PMs privately or publicly here. Once both sides are in agreement one of the two should announce the trade with the other confirming it by responding to the announcement. At that point the league votes by sending me a PM. The two parties involved have votes which count towards the outcome, just as it works at Yahoo Fantasy Sports.
The absolute deadline to finalize keepers is one week before the draft, which is some time in early to mid August. Should a player get injured for the season in that one week window we'll bend the rules on that one and allow a replacement to be selected... Assuming the player was not involved in an off-season trade.

2. Adrian Peterson
3. Chris Johnson
4. Jamal Charles
5. LeSean McCoy
6. Darren McFadden
7. Maurice Jones-Drew
8. Rashard Mendenhall
9. Michael Turner
10. Ray Rice
11. Michael Vick
12. Aaron Rodgers
13. Frank Gore
14. Roddy White
15. Andre Johnson
I'm entering the off-season with five out of the top 15. The only guys I'm willing to trade in that five are Michael Turner and Frank Gore. I'd like to move one of those guys for another elite receiver or maybe JerMichael Finley. I'm off Gates now that he has foot problems. Turner or Gore for Andre Johnson or Hakeem Nicks is what I'm thinking.
Yahoo opened the doors to the 2011 season extremely early this year. Last week... Could have been the week before, can't remember, I got an email from them telling me I could go create the league for this season so I did it right then and there. I can send out the details if you guys want it.
FYI,
Frank Gore
DeAngelo Williams
Michael Turner
Mike Wallace
Brandon Marshall
They're all on the block. No uneven player numbers in trades prior to the season. So in other words only one for ones, two for twos, etc. allowed. It would mess up the draft if we did it any other way.
