Toronto Trades: Steve Novak
Houston Trades: Terrence Jones
Currently, the money does not match up, but this can be easily solved. Houston has far too many people under contract currently, and will need to waive several of ther unguaranteed contracts. This will easily clear the roughly $1.5mil needed to create the necessary space.
Why for Houston:
Morey has shown that his desired style if play is to surround a strong centre with as many 3pt shooters as possible, with efficiency being the key. Novak easily fits the bill in this regard and adds another weapon. Houston is also clearly in win now mode, so loosing a younger prospect isn't a huge lose. This is particularly true as Jones plays the same position as Moriejunas who they seem to favour.
Why for Toronto:
This trade makes the most sense if Ujiri moves into asset collection. Jones is a young prospect who has shown some potential. Adding some young and cheap depth pieces (which could eventually be more than depth) would be a great addition. This deal also gives the Raptors another asset that is cost controllable. With the team options and His RFA years, Jones is both an a good asset on the roster, and also for future trade possibilities.
Thoughts?
