If the team stays basically intact...as in, if Lowry, Vasquez and Pat are all brought back
Guards: Udrih, Ridnour, Patty Mills
Wings: Aminu, Battier, Ariza, Carter, Meeks, CJ Miles
Bigs: Okafor, Brand, Ayon, Ryan Hollins
Basically a hopefully capable 3rd PG....
Hopefully a SF with size and a wing who can shoot/score...
And an upgrade at backup C if possible. If Okafor is healthy, but also comes at a bargain because of his injury issues this year, that'd be perfect. Brand I fear might be a bit too ripe. Ayon and Hollins both bring a little bit to the table, but aren't big difference makers, though Ayon has a decent touch.
If our roster is not kept intact, but Lowry stays at least:
PGs: Blake, Livingston....and then Udrih, Ridnour, Mills
Wings: the same as above....we need 4 solid enough wings, so we need 2 guys behind DeMar and Ross
Bigs: Davis? Humphries? McRoberts if he opts out (but then he'll probably want a raise over the 2+ million he'd be making)? Diaw? I hope they can re-sign 2Pat....Cs the same ->Okafor, Brand, Ayon, Hollins
Basically we'd need a quality backup to replace Vasquez at PG and a 3rd PG....
Wing position stays the same....I think I'd basically like Carter or Meeks, plus any of the other 4.
Bigs are tough. We'd need a PF to replace 2Pat. We can just roll with Hansbrough for another year as the primary backup, but it'd be nice to have a guy with some shooting touch. McRoberts or Diaw might fit nicely, though neither might really be available (figure if Diaw's going to play at a near-minimum salary, he'll probably stay with the Spurs)
If Lowry leaves, I see the situation being pretty much the same as above, because if he does go they probably will keep Vasquez.
*EDIT: and the basic strategy stays the same across the board no matter what. Not the time to blow extra cash. Just get as many of these guys (or similar options) as possible at as low a cost as possible. If we need a new 2nd PG, that might cost a bit (a decent chunk of MLE), but otherwise I wouldn't want to spend more than between minimum value and about $2.5M on any other guys.Last edited by white men can't jump; Thu Mar 27, 2014, 01:35 PM.

Start?) in place of Amir. Replace Chuck Hayes in the roster, I'nm all for it, but I believe Chuck has another year left on his contract with the raps. Good luck trading him unless it is as salary filler in a trade.

valanciunas/okafor/hayes
johnson/patterson/hansbrough
ross/carter/novak
derozan/de colo/fields
lowry/vasquez/ennis
Valanciunas/Okafor/Hayes
Johnson/Patterson/Handsbrough
Ross/Carter/Novak
Derozan/Mills/Fields
Lowry/Vasquez/Ennis
That's not a bad second unit to be honest. Okafor, from what I remember, plays some pretty good D. With Patterson/Carter/Mills/Vasquez to carry the starting load of the second unit, I think they would be relatively set there.
I mean, if we could obviously somehow move Hayes/Novak/Fields, that would be absolutely STUNNING. Ayon/Ridnour/Meeks would be stunning to pickup over them. However,
As for Ennis, I haven't paid too much attention to the 2014 Draft, but, I'd just draft the BPA. Fill the positions regardless with people that fit into the System, and just take the BPA and evaluate afterwards.
I would stretch-provision Fields, because I highly doubt MU will give away an asset just to get rid of him. I mean, at the point, if he ends up being anything good, he's "cheap", if not, then he's just a roster spot.
I feel like Novak could still be moved. He's a specialist for 3.5/3.75 in 2014/2015.
Hayes, I believe we're stuck with to be honest, but at least he's a big body, and with a quality backup C, we won't have to see him much, lol.

An extra $2.25M in free agency this summer is going to do diddly squat.
Keep him and free up $2.25M in each of the next 2 off seasons where it just might.

Truthfully, that team I listed above, maybe a second round exit in next season, it's not a team you want to be in the tax for to be honest. And then when players like lets say, Durant, are FAs, that's when you want to start dipping into the tax.

Still, the stretch provision is something to keep in mind, if some star type player gets interested this summer.
