Toronto has had a bottom 5-ish front office over the last 4 years. They've missed on almost everything. I don't get the logic of giving Masai and Bobby a pass because they hit leading up to the championship. Their decisions over the last 3-4 years could end up hamstringing this franchise over the next 2-3 years.
They literally went off the board and drafted the NBA rookie of the year 2.5 years ago. They deserve their fair share of criticism but C'mon.

He was talking about the last 4 years though. Not his entire tenure here. The last 4 years the only good move they've made was drafting Barnes.

That’s why I said almost everything. They followed their one good move up by not properly evaluating their team, not reading tea leaves on upcoming free agents and not building a team that can synergize with the rookie of the year.

            • Great call but scottie was projected a pick or two after suggs and apparently suggs couldnt hit the side of a barn in his tryout. Suggs was bricking so bad they told him to take a break. Watched this team since day one and since the loss to boston in the playoffs its been the worst most frustrating stretch ever. Well ok right up there with the post vince era. But even then we bottomed out for a couple years then gradual improved

The honeymoon is officially over at that point. Could argue it was over this past offseason. Don’t think ownership isn’t paying attention.

Is that a long time between contention windows? What's the expected interval?

We're nowhere close to contention so the interval is gonna be a lot longer than just 5 years unless Masai makes some moves this season.

It’s context dependent and there’s definitely a grace period to reset things. But if after 5 years no one can even tell what you are doing and nothing makes sense and there’s been a series of errors, then you’re running out of time.

                        • How did you derive the 5 year window? What is that expectation based on? Also, if you don't know what he's doing, does it follow that he doesn't? In what way is you knowing important for the franchise?

How long should the interval be? What is the expected interval, and how might the expectation be derived?

                              Yeah.
The core of 2019 is gone.
It's not like the Warriors, Bucks or Nuggets where they will able to retain their major pieces.

                                Off the board was Bargnani.
Scotty was just a slightly different top 5 to what most had.
