    Our team's getting pretty stacked...

    Pg: Cory Joseph, Tyler Ennis
    SG: Nik Stauskas
    SF: Andrew Wiggins, Andrew Nicholson
PF: Tristan Thompson, Anthony Bennett, Khem Birch
C: Kelly Olynyk, Robert Sacre, Joel Anthony, Jordan Bachynski/Sim Bhullar

Probably forgetting some, but it seems like we should compete for a medal in the 2016 Olympics
We have come along way from when this thread was started . We used the term " stacked " with
are guards being Cory , Ennis and Stauskas .

Is it just me but why is money such a big deal with our Canadian and Men's soccer program but it is such a non story with our mens
      and woman's basketball program .
      Different governing boards.

From my little knowledge on the subject; Soccer Canada took a long term deal when the teams were crap, now that both team are doing well they are still on the old deal and are getting pennies when they should be getting gold bars.

Canada Soccer could be the worse run out of any team or sport, even business.

The lesson that they learned when they lost to Czech was that continuity matters. USA has surplus of talent and Canada will never match that. European players commit to their programs for years.
The Euro continuity is overblown. The star of Czech team (Schilb) in the game they knocked out Nurse’s stacked Team Canada is an American who never played for them before (maybe once). And Satoransky was in and out of the program due to NBA commitments and COVID.

And Scariolo won EuroBasket last year with a batch of new, young & inexperienced guys, mixed with NBA scrubs (Hernangomez brothers).

FIBA is an example where coaching experience does matter. Nurse was learning on the fly.

Well they kind of did quit during the Nash era, after the Venezuela fiasco, until Barrett brought the program back.
Barrett hired Nurse and that's when players came back.

I find it hilarious you want to give 100% credit to Barrett, but don't recognize that his first move was hiring Nurse, that was the lynchpin to help him turn the program around.

I don't think Nash was ever fully on board and his locality to Jay may have been his downfall .. With Nash status in
the league he could have got a name coach to coach the team ..

Guys .. The U.S team is full of new players and it seems to get a commitment from beyond one tournament is hard for the U.S too .
so what Wiggins is doing isn't that unusual when we are compared to the U.S program ..

We should celebrate who is there now and are version of the Canadian dream team has finally arrived . The argument of
why they are there does it really matter .. they are here ..

            This is BS.

Top USA players play for the program for many cycles. Almost all of them played in 2 Olympics, and several played in more than that.

You're seeing some turnover now because the top guys got old and finally have to be replaced. Plus USA does not field their best team for this tournament, they will for the Olympics.

I’ll give Nurse some credit, no problem, but a lot more to Rowan, but mostly…. the players, themselves, for getting good enough to have a big Canadian talent pool.

The original comment was about Nurse building a foundation…. he didn’t. He hopped on the foundation and didn’t mess it up like Nash & Triano kinda did.

It’s too bad Nurse’s stacked team didn’t make the 2020 Olympics… that would’ve gone a long way to building the program.

You are right that the NBA super super stars are in their 30 's .. Who is on the U.S Olympic team ? The all NBA team in 2023 which means the best of the best only has 1 U.S player ..Second team has 3 U.S players but 2 of them are in their late 30's . The world has caught up ..

Most of the "super" stars from the US are definitely aging: Lebron, Steph, Dame, KD, Paul, Kawhi, George, Butler, Davis, etc.

But they still have a lot of elite talent that could suit up for the Olympics: Tatum, Brown, Trae, Bam, Mitchell, Bridges, LaVine, Brunson, Haliburton, Mobley, Barnes, Cade, Green, Banchero, Morant, Fox, Booker, Edwards, Ingram, Zion, etc

They could still get one or two of those super stars to go as mentors. Maybe KD wants to play one last time. Or Steph or Dame.

US will always be the favorites in any tourney they are a part of. They just won't be fielding any dream teams anymore.

To be determined. I suspect Denver will have a big say in the matter behind the scenes.

So much for Golden Era of Canadian basketball. We're not winning shit if our best players don't play. Simple as that.

Reports say he could join the team on the 17th for the final 2 exhibition games, or just wait until the world cup starts on the 25th. So still a decent chance he plays.

This is the team as it stands now without Murray.

Canada goes into its exhibition series with a 13-man roster. There are seven NBAers on the trip — Gilgeous-Alexander, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, R.J. Barrett, Lu Dort, Dillon Brooks, Kelly Olynyk and Dwight Powell — augmented by Trae Bell-Haynes, Kyle Alexander, Melvin Ejim, Zach Edey and Phil and Tommy Scrubb.

That's still a pretty solid group. Don't think we're screwed without Murray but obviously would be much better if he plays.
